Exclamation Rear wheel bearings help!

So we took out my axles and had them cut off the old bearings and they were going to press new ones on, but they said we were missing a part.
The last ring in the image, it is right behind the bearing. Were they suposta cut that off? Also what is it called so we can get a new one?

I think you want to leave that, it's the surface that seals against the bearing seal thats still in the housing from when you pulled the axle. You should replace that seal as well but thats a simple bearing seal that you pop out and push in a new one.

The bearing on the axle is two peices; the pressed on collar and the bearing itself. You cut the collar off and then the bearing should slide off or may need to be cut off as well. The bearings will have ball bearings visble.

I haven't actually pulled an axle, so all I've done is look at the parts fiches and FSM. I think that's the bearing spacer, and I don't think you need to replace it. If you do, you can get them from Mazdatrix, Blackdragon and probably your local parts store.

My guess is its probably just the retaining collar. There isnt really any way to remove the bearing/collar without cutting it off unless you have the special mazda tool, usually if you take it in to have the bearing removed they will cut it off.

I ran into the same problem last year. I was confused when they called me and told me I was missing a part, but then I realized after looking at my victoria british catalog that it was the collar I was missing.
Its sortof unusual that it doesnt just come with the bearing and seal kit, but I guess thats just how it goes, Im prety sure that is all you will need.

Edit: sorry should have looked at the picture better, the last ring thats still on there does appear to just be the spacer. Im confused as to why they cut it off, but if you look at the black dragon catalog:
http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/rx/0070.html
you can see all the componants of the rear axle/bearing area, and it appears to be the spacer.

Why would they have cut the spacer off? Its not pressed on or anything, it just slides on before the bearing and retaining collar go on. And yes you must have that there for it to work, if they cut it off you might wanna think twice about having work done there again, there are dozens of cars out there with the exact same style axle that our cars have, so its not like its an uncommon procedure to replace this type of bearing.

That ring is a spacer. You need it to be there. It slips on before you press the bearing.

If you slide it off a bit you will notice a radius on the shaft shoulder. If you look at the inside of the spacer you will notice the same radius.

The reason for the spacer is so Mazda could design a radius on the axle to make it stronger. Since standard rear wheel bearings do not have a radius Mazda made a spacer to give the bearing a square shoulder to rest on.
