Hanging a CD from the rearview mirror to shield your radio from cosmic rays serves more of a purpose.

Peejay, That made me chuckle. I think I'm over it now. I wouldn't mind that racing beat front strut tower. The single piece with the inserts for each strut.

Not sure who makes this or if it's fabricated. I asked the seller of the car to try and determine the make. Anyways, here ya go..

Update:

re amemiya apparently makes these braces but I can't find them anywhere.. Maybe it's an old product.
IMO this looks like it's sitting too high and probably is just connected the top of the struts where the bolt onto the body

old thread, but im bumping it so I can share a pic later on my phone of my home made rear upper strut bar. give me an hour or two and i'll have pics up. this DID require drilling into the strut top mounts inside the car but it's well worth it in my opinion and a small but noticeable difference

*Rise from your grave*

Glad I ran into this. It’s a shame no one makes these for the 1st gen anymore. I will most likely try and see if the local welder can set something up like this.

Funny thing, I put a street roll bar in my 85.... just thought it looked kinda cool. but it really stiffened up the body of the car.

That's good as I believe it should help as well. I recently added a Racing Beat rear sway bar and that made a huge difference in making the rear feel more secure on turns.

The rear strut brace is probably ok but I would NEVER do the weld in harness bar that is SHOObs post. That will fail the second that car gets in a head on accident.

+2 on that. I remember reading Import Tuner back in the day and reading an article of it being a big safety hazard. The understanding is that unless you plan on wearing a safety helmet along with your passenger - it's one bad car wreck from having you bash your skull against it.

Actually the concern is that the tube welded into the unibody like it is in ShOObs car, with no additional bracing in the load path, will bend/fail when the occupants wearing the shoulder harness are thrown forward. Even the cheapest harness bar has attachment points in several planes to prevent this.

The solution is a roll bar and fixed back seats. But yes, even with a roll bar there is the danger of unprotected heads hitting it. This can be mitigated by attaching the roll bar hoop as far back in the car as possible and not to the floor directly behind the front seats.

It looks like it's only bolted where the seatbelt shoulder anchor is.
