rear rotor heating up really fast

well, the title says it, my rear rotor header get cherry red hot before it even heats up to normal operating temp. i just filled the radiator with cooland, and reinsalled the oil pan which is leaking fron the plug i think. if that makes any difference. ithas also started running pretty rich.

well if its running really rich, then thats why your header is getting so hot. a LOT of unburned fuel is being burnt right in your header, causing it to heat up.

If something is wrong with your carb I guess it could. I cant think of any other reason your header would be getting that hot.

Definately running rich on the rear rotor. It is possible to run rich on just one rotor. That would mean that your carb is totally screwed. The orfice in the primary jet on the rear primary barrel could have opened up some how (can't seem how but its the best I can think of), causing more fuel to be sucked in and causing the rear rotor to run rich. This is really the only thing I can think of. I know this is possible though because it happened to me. My carb looked ok when i rebuilt it, but I ran it for the first time the other day and the front rotor is getting WAY too much fuel. If you look down the carb on my car you can actually see fuel dripping from the venturi. There is just so much there that it doesn't mix with the air and drops raw fuel into the engine. Needless to say its flooding itself out, and I am getting a different carb because as it is the carb is enough of a frankenstein from when I rebuilt it. So, new used carb is coming in my very near future (probably get one this weekend).

Forget what i said then. I didn't know you had a dellorto. In that case, you could just have the wrong jet size in the rear barrel.

Check the spark plugs - See if the rear rotor is running richer than the front, by the color.

I wouldn't drive it too much. With that header getting so hot, you could warp the mounting flange and make an exhaust leak.

Thats what I would do if I couldn't fix it. It sounds too complicated to me. Something is just not right with your carb.

retarded timing on the rear rotor? as in bent distributer rotor.

just a guess, but get the carb checked out first.

hmm, maybe your cooling passages could be clogged up or ur not getting oil into your rear rotor. just a guess though.
