rear light water leak
rear light water leak
hey guys my rear tail light is leaking water in to my car and under the carpet in my hatch is wet just found out today it looks like the weatherstripping is bad how do i fix can i buy weatherstripping or do i have to buy a whole new light please reply
are you sure it's the weather stripping around the lights and not the tube for the drains on the rear hatch? Have you checked Black dragon? It would also help to know the year of your car to determine which seal your talking about.
First off, I would definitely check the rear hatch seal. That is usually one of the first ones to go. It can make your car really noisy, you get exhaust fumes in the cabin, and then on top of that it leaks. So definitely check that. Mazdatrix lists the hatch seals for $90 but I've had good luck with universal push on type seals.

Something like this from JCWhitney usually works very well, and closes tighter than the OEM seals do. Plus, it's only half as much as the OEM seals are.
Assuming that your hatch seal is fine, then you will need to change the tail light seals. Try Mazdatrix for the tail light seals. They are a bit pricey, but I don't think that you have much of a choice as far as alternatives are concerned.

^ Water in this area usually is associated with the drain holes/tubes and their condition. Pull up the bottom of the rubber hatch seal and see if you still have a 1" metal lip. Once this lip or the area around the drains has rust holes water drains into the car.
you might want to check the tubes as well they might be cracked or clogged. blow them out with low pressure air and then test them. If you have a sunroof do the same for those drain holes as well.
