Question Rear Hatch Strut

Where is a good place to order a new glass hatch strut?

I know Victoria British sells them, but several years ago,
when I had my previous Seven, I found an aftermarket one that
had like twice the lifting power to hold the hatch up.

I only needed one (left side) and I decided to leave the one with
the rear wiper assembly alone.

It worked great. I just want the same thing for my present 7
and don't remember where I got it.

Any Ideas?

strutin.............

got my replacements at Carquest, (don't know if you have them in your area however). These struts are strong enough to keep the hatch wide open and drive the car, if I ever had to do it. I was also able to retain my rear window defrost hook up using a new strut. good luck

You can get threm from Advance auto parts, or auto zone for like 9 each. Why go through the trouble getting a used one?

I think advance is where I got mine....the brand is strong man, or tuff man, or something like that I believe. Powerful as all hell, and you can use them with the rear wiper thingy. replace both at the same time otherwise you risk stressing the glass and hinges with unbalanced forces.

Right on

got mine at Autozone 4 years ago. Finally removed one of them, due to the fact I had to climb on top glass and jump on it to get it down. I think they are $4/each.

Hey brownmound - how did you accomodate for the wiper on yours? Did you transfer the electrics to the new strut, or bypass in some way? I have wipers and alum louvers and need to have more oomph.

If you get the tuff man/ strong arm/ whatever they are called lifts then the little round electircal doohicky will fit over the new strut....you have to cut the shrinkwrap which holds the wire to the strut, though...just replace it with heat shrink tubing or just a few tie wraps like i did.

good luck

Right on
