what is the best carb upgrade?
is it better to enhance the stock unit, or buy a holly 4 barrel? what is involved in upgrading the stok carb, any recommendations? also, how much hp would this add with a header-presilencer setup?

Paul Yaw states in his web site that a stock port 12a with his carb and exhust and ignition upgrades gets about 150hp and a street port about 180hp.

People who have the Yaw nikki swear by them.

Does that mean that the YAW carbs are better than the Holleys? What if the Holley had the ignition upgrades...? I'm wondering cuz I'm looking into Holley carbs...

Old [Sch|F]ool
The IDAs are discontinued.
You can still get huge IDF's and DCO/DCOE's but AFAIK nobody makes a manifold for the IDFs and the manifolds available for the sidedrafts (DCO/DCOE) are pretty crappy.
I'd rather go with a Yaw than a Holley set-up, actually, even though I'm a Holley fan. The Holley set-up looks like it won't fit under the hood (the ones I've seen ran without an air cleaner and had a hood scoop for clearance) while you KNOW the Nikki will fit. On my '80 I couldn't fit a 1" thick ice bag on top of the air cleaner lid, that's how much room there is to play with (Not Much!). Holley manifolds look almost as tall as stock manifold with carb on it!

Yaw takes patience to get it back, and patience to tune it, but it's great.
Webers and Yaws will have a higher resalability than a Holley.
You probably won't be disappointed with a Weber or a Yaw.
Cost versus wait.
Others can tell you about the differences. When ever you ask, make the contributrs of opinions tell you what they have, and have had to compare it to.
I've only had a Yaw.
