rear ends

anyone know how easy it is to hook up an 87 gxl rear end into an 83 gsl. and do the second gens come with posi rear ends?

It would be a whole lot of work. Why not shoot for a GSL or GSL-SE if you want a LSD. Posi is a GM term for LSD (limited slip differential).

Hey! This is good! I've been wanting to know more about this rear-end stuff too.

So if limited slip is the good one, what is the real name for the "one tire fryer" differential that every hates so much?

The clutch type LSD in the 87 is a drop in part for the 84/85 rear, but not the 83 due to its smaller axle diameters. Now remember, the whole diff will not drop in, just the actual LSD inside of the diff.

thanks for the help guys. the reason i'm asking is casue i've dropped a 460 into a 83, and running with stock diff. and that scares me. just looking for the best way to put in a stronger rear end

i think you can run a ford 9" rear end. they cost alot but it will handle a lot of power.
