Okay, how 'bout it's not locking up? I can cruise for as long as I want to in any gear...so far!
Are we talking about the same issue?

If so, other than hard knocks, is there set of instructions (somewhere!) to lead me thru this?

Any chance it could be a rear brake issue?

If it has rear discs, then it will have lsd. I think you might find it hard to locate a rear end at that price though. 250-300 seems to be more like it for a complete rear in good condition...

^ Looks like I am junkyard hunting with this guy! I might be in the market for another rearend, I am hearing a ring and pinion wind on accel and when I pulled the driveshaft to pull the trans, the pinion flange had play.... I am afraid to pull the cover due to the inevitable metal chunks I am sure to see.... or I could build mine with moser axles

call me crazy but if upon inspection of the axle shafts being healthy, if someone were to have a healthy third member, could you just replace that at mabey less of a cost to you and get you rolling quicker.

Yes sir sound like the third member I am having some issues with mine. I wish I had a junk yard near my house, and even if I did I rarely see a first gen....
good luck hope you get the problem squared away
And yes you could just replace the third member no need to swith the whole rear end out
