rear DRUM BREAK HELP!!!

rear DRUM BREAK HELP!!!

Hey guys ... SA rx7 with the drum breaks not wanting to come off.. I took all the rear bolts off and the drum break just sits there not comming off. I even tryed prying it.. wouldnt work .. also a little banging with hammer nothin happening there
how do i get these bad boys off?
Also i think they've been there for more than 7 years.

You probably have already checked this but is your emergency brake set? Check to make sure there is no tension on the emergency brake cable. You may want to get a slide hammer to knock the drums loose.

If nothing else works try heating with a blow torch. Be careful doing this as you can mess up a lot of things (wheel cylinders, springs, cables, etc) if you get them too hot.

Try penetrating oil. Spray it on EVERYTHING that could hold the drum in place. If that doesn't work then use heat. But don't get it too hot. You can wreck your wheel cylinders, your return springs and can even warp the drum.

I might also be stuck on the pads. Does it come off to a certain point then spring back?

Get yourself a big *** hammer and whack the hell out of those drums, no ***** tap tap tap, a ******* whomp whomp whomp. Those things are made out of cast iron so you can beat on those things all day. Your drums are rusted right on the end of your axels, hitting it with the hammer vibrates them to break that rust apart. HIT THEM HARD

If that don't work you can resort to this method.

Take a die grinder/cut off saw and somehow grind the heads off of those hold down pins from the back of your backing plate. They will look like 2 heads off a nail. If you don't have access to those tools, you could even drill them out, that might be easier. Whatever you use, it will cause your brakes to collapse in because the hold down springs hold them tight to the backing plate. Letting them loose allows them to come off the backing plate, and in conjunction with the other retainer springs pulling them more forwards. That action should allow some room to pull off the drums. You've got nothing to lose and most likely it will give you some leway to pull those stubborn drums off. Have fun!
