Question Rear Disc Axle?

1st gens with rear discs. Are the axle shafts interchangable? If not interchangable how do I find out what I have? I have a bent right passenger shaft and would like to find another.

Thanks

I believe they are, but don't hold me to it. Lemmie dig up the parts fiche.

EDIT:
Yes they are.

For 81-83 you want part number FA01-26-111... It's the same for Drum and Disc brake cars. It's the housing that's different for drum and disc brake cars.

For 84-85 you want part number FA54-26-111... and for GSL-SE, you want FA66-26-111

Good luck man.

BTW: How did you end up bending the axle shaft?

While the axles might be the same, the backing plates are different. The issue being that the backing plates are behind the wheel bearings, so you can't just grab a used axle of the "wrong" variety and bolt it on; if you mix & match stuff, you have to pull the bearings and swap backing plates (a big PITA). Of course, if you are buying new axles, the point is moot. Just something to keep in mind...

I just meant if you're gonna go get the axle shafts form a junk yard, you can grab a drum axle and use it.

Haven't taken them apart yet, it's hard to tell for me since it's a 1979 RX-7 with rear discs. So thats not stock. Maybe I can take pics. That would be nice if you have the right axles.

What kinda wheels does it have, or does it have vented rear discs? That'll narrow it down to GSL-SE or not.

You have a SE rear, which is both good and bad, its good in that the SE rear is better than the others. Its bad in that you have to find SE axles. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but SE axles are different than all the rest, so you're gonna have a time finding a good set. Good luck.

I'm sorry, I never included a link. http://www.rx7.org/jes/axles.html

You want them cut to STOCK length. Those are custom lengthened axles...

I added that link to another fucked up rear axle thread and remembered this one.

Tell us what you did man. Scrapper, New Mazda, or have you fixed it yet?
