rear brake calipers

rear brake calipers

I went to change my rear brake pads and i cant seem to compress the piston of my rear brake calipers. Anybody know what the hell is up with that.

Probably because you have to twist them back in due to the ebrake mechanism.

Time to take a look at a FSM or at least the haynes manual...

correct. there is a special cube shaped tool that has different studs for various makes of vehicles that is used to turn the piston back into the caliper. you can pick the tool up for less than $20 at most auto parts stores. it fits onto a 3/8 extension and wratchet and you will turn the piston clockwise into the caliper.

You dont have to have that tool. Just use the open end of a wrench with a screwdriver in the closed end for twisting leverage and push down and twist on the piston with the open side of the wrench in between the gaps of the piston. Try like a 14-17mm wrech worked for me.
