Rear 3 piece spoiler template

Starting repairs to my SE and will paint entire car when done. Have purchased a used good condition oe 3 piece rear spoiler online. Were i to have taken the spoiler from the donor car myself i would have taken measurements for mounting locations & or made some type of template for where to drill holes(would like to drill exact holes one time). Have browsed/searched the website for info on this to no avail, if i have overlooked any info,or if anyone knows of an existing template & could hook me up it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hey,

I haven't seen any template around myself. I also have one that I need to mount. What I was going to do was mockt it up without the 2 brackets on. After it is mocked up I was just going to remove the 2 side pieces and leave the center on, then mark where I would need to drill the holes for the bracket using the center piece.

"Brackets", are you referring to the studs in the bottom of the center piece. Had some thoughts along those lines but was reluctant to attempt removing the studs that have been in place the best part of 30 yrs. for fear of loosening the inserts they're screwed into or cracking the fiberglass itself.

I believe the two of you have spoilers that mount differently. Sounds like aeenox has the one that mounts with U bolts that fit between the mid section and side pieces.

Was not aware there was more than one 3 piece wing. The type i have is the same i removed from cars that had been damaged when i worked at the dealer when these cars were new. I have seen a one piece wing advertised,i forget where, but never seen one on a car.

I know the thread is old, but I had a question about the template. Did Mazda supply the template with the three piece IMSA style wing when you installed them as dealer accessories? The RX-8 rear spoiler, when installed as an add on, came with templates and mounting instructions. I had my parts guy print them off for me a few years back when I bought a spoiler for my then new 8 that did not have one. The templates worked perfectly.

Yes they did,and I promptly tossed them when done with spoiler. Saved so much other stuff from back then, should have thought to save templates....

When I installed the used spoiler on my current SE,I turned spoiler upside down on rug in my living room and securely taped 3 pieces together and using sheets from a desktop calendar taped together and taped to spoiler,I used an exacto knife and sliced along all sides of spoiler and made small holes thru paper at mounting points.

Put template on car centered on hatch latch bracket on rear window and taped in place and transferred marks to car with a sharpie.
