I'm not sure how critical it is; it's job is to adjust the mix based on altitude changes, by bypassing a calibrated amount of air. How much of an effect it has on tune per 1000' of altitude, I don't rightly know; I've never run without one.

You could cap the top nipple easily enough; the bottom one is a threaded hole that would have to be plugged with an appropriately sized plug, since the nipple on it is busted off.

Worse comes to worst, he could fill the broken bottom part with epoxy and let it set up before threading it back in the hole.

oh that left rear nut...i cursed the dude who decided to put it there for about half an hour. don't get me started...

ok, so i've looked around several places and am not seeing this AC thingy for sale.

but i was able to get it unscrewed from the engine and the broken part out of the hose. i'm in the process of attempting to epoxy the two back together. not sure how well the stuff i have will work with plastic though - so not holding my breath.

can i eliminate this? good question - would be very curious to know if i could just cap both and call it a day. thoughts?

i'll let my patch job harden tonight and put it all back together and see what happens. REALLY hoping this solves my idle problem!

Mazda part number for it is 8761-13-770. It's probably a dealer part if it's available at all. Not the kind of stuff an aftermarket parts place would carry.

You might be able to get ElPena or one of the other guys with good scrapyard access to SA's to find one for you.

Oh, and good luck.

yep that the part number i came across in the fsm as well.

didn't see it at any Advance Auto/NAPA type places, eBay, Black Dragon, Atkins Rotary or Mazdatrix. just got off the phone with my local Mazda dealer parts department - they said there are only two left in Mazda's inventory the USA!

a jaw dropping $66! but, needless to say I ordered one....

when i popped the hood for the first time last year there was a small random hose just sitting in the bay. now it makes total sense where it came from - it's this hose you're referring to!

now, it's broken. the plastic nipple is snapped off and stuck up in the hose. see attached pic.

is this a readily available part - is there a specific name for the plastic end piece that's my broken connection point?
if you would have posted 2 days ago i could have given you atleast 1. i had one of my vacuum plug hoses break off (anti afterburn) but the plastic piece was fine so i took it out and threw it away, along with a couple others lol.

well gentleman, hats off to you all. on me for everyone the next time you pass through Virginia Beach! DivinDriver, your clue about the AC hose was dead on.

used some epoxy to put that plastic piece back together and then connected my mystery hose from it to that open nipple just above it, gave her some starter fluid and she fired right up. purred like a dream just under 1000 RPM.

started to sound like it might stall before i quickly killed it (didn't want to **** the neighbors off too much). so, next i'll try to figure out the white smoke issue and perhaps adjust the idle air and/or mixture screws to make sure it doesn't stall. welcome any suggestions....

anyways, thanks a freakin ton guys! but don't think you've gotten rid of me - this is just the beginning of all my questions!

If the white smoke turns out to be a blown internal coolant seal, PM me. I've got the answer you'll be needing on that issue, anyway.

If its been sitting a while id run it and the smoke may clear up on its own. I wouldnt adjust the mixture settings though.
