Re-speed Coil Over Conversion

SO i HAVE A QUESTION AND NO MY SEARCH IS NOT WORKING.

i HAVE 17X8 RIMS AND THE PROBLEM i AM HAVING IS THAT WHEN THE WHEELS ARE INSTALLED THEY HIT THE LARGE COIL ON THE FACTORY SPRINGS AND WILL REQUIRE A SPACER BUT THEN THE SPACER PUTS THE WHEEL OUTSIDE OF THE FENDER...

MY QUESTION IS

what is the outside diamater of the coil in the coil over conversion.

who is running it and what spring did you select.

my car is a 1979 with gsl-se spindles, t-II brakes and gsl-se rear end.

going to have a 13b turbo, power steering and such in it. so its a bit heavier than stock up front. I am going to move battery to rear.

show me some pics of your coils installed.

thanks

I have seen a couple of people running them. I heard the REWINDS can rub the spring and the kit does prevent it. Call or PM bwaits (Billy) from Re-Speed. He is very helpful and will answer any of your questions.

Here is a pic of my ReSpeed race coil over kit installed. The outside diameter of coilover springs varies with the thickness of the wire used to make the coil. The only constant in diameter is the inside diameter at 2.5".

thanks, that looks like it would work, because the spring is much higher up than the orginal 1st large coil.

now as for spring rate I am unsure, like i said the car will be a weekend warrior, drag, auto x (maybee) cruise ect.

and will be a bit heavier than the orginal set up..

85rotarypower did you use the street/race or the roadrace version.

one requires welding and one does not. I am wondering which would be a better option for me.. (I can weld so thats not the problem)

thanks

I used the weld on version. I had my struts apart anyway and it was cheaper for me as I can weld. The lower spring perch is actually no higher than the stock perch I believe.

Street kit runs a 7" x 250# spring max.
Race kit you run 8" or 10" springs, any rate.

We recommend up to 275# for street / Autocross and 300+ for race. Although our own Street/Track Day car sits on 350# in the front.

A 8" x 250# spring will be smaller OD than a 7" x 250# spring. You may want to choose the race coil over so the spring OD will be the smaller of the two.

Well if you don't want to do coilovers you can always just get bolt-on wide fender flares to cover your wheels with the spacer, plus I think they look great.

I went with the adjustable rear perches and 150 Lb. springs in the rear. Race coilover kit with 275 Lb. springs on the front. Haven't had a chance to race it yet (still nowing here dammit) but the equipment is sexy as all hell. Billy (respeed) does great work, and customer support is out of this world...

I was having trouble getting enough camber with my camber plates, because the stock spring was hitting on the inside. The smaller diameter coilover springs will allow me to get all the camber I need, and then some. They are much, much smaller in diameter than the RB springs they are replacing.
