Re-speed brake kit ?'s

First off how many are using it?

I purchased an 84 with GSL-SE upgraded brakes and I want to make sure I have everything i need before tearing the front apart.

Other then that do i really need anything besides the kit, turboII calipers, rotors and hubs? Any good source for new hubs?

thanks for any help,

Mac

Instructions will be with the kit, as for new hubs, just buy a used set. Contact Billy at Respeed

The one hurtle you have to overcome is the brake lines. Not a tough one really. Some say to use the TII flex lines, but you can do it easily with the stock FB flex lines. Here are pics of my setup.

i have had this kit for a WHILE. i havent been able to put many miles on it, but ive torn it apart and put it back together numerous times for numerous reasons.

get used hubs, theres no point in buying new. get all new bearings for the hubs. when you go to switch out the bearings youll have to grind a small section of the hub to remove the old bearing racers. if you need more info about this pm me or search the FC section.

either get new calipers or get used and rebuild them.

finding wheels isnt hard. i got my work equips for a decent price.

my biggest problem was with brake lines. i bought the kit in its debut. i had to get a local shop to make me custom SS front lines. i had it like that for a little bit but i hated the FC hard line. so i got billy to send me a set of his lines that eliminate the FC hard line. best thing i could do, IMO.

if youre going to do the rear, get the respeed lines also. i had the stock FC lines for a little bit, but they are too long and i didnt feel safe running them.

so:

get used hubs and change out the bearings
get new calipers or rebuild old
get some decent rotors and pads
just look around for wheels and youll actually have a nice selection to choose from
i got mine from pandagarage.com
save yourself some headaches and get the respeed SS lines

contact billy if you have any questions. best customer service ever

I haven't installed my kit yet, but Billy now offers a complete brake hose kit with the package. I also got the 5th line (body to rear axle) for a few extra dollars with my kit.

Awesome info guys I will PM him or email thru his site forsure, I just wanted to make sure I was getting the rite idea on what i can accomplish with this kit. My 2 main goals are switching to 5 bolt hubs as I have a Ford 8.8 in the rear that will be 5 bolt after Moser is done with it. The other reason is with GSL-se brakes stopping after a run is kinda scary at the moment so improved brakeing would be great.

Any idea's for prop valve's?

I had mine installed over a year already and it's a great improvement in breaking distance, pedal feel, etc. If you want to keep the 4 lug pattern you need to get 2nd gen 4 lug hubs and re drilled the TT2 5 lug brake rotors to 4 lug any machine shop can do that. Now because im using 18x7.5 wheels im using a set of wheel spacers so i used ARP late model GM 12mm X 1.50 wheel studs they are longer than stock ones. I love the look of the TT2 calipers and after christmas ill get the rear TT2 brake conversion to match. Billy @ ReSpeed make awesone products

Is it the red one with the 4.3 Chevy, or the GN swap? Think I've seen at Grand Bend from time to time...

it works with both 4 lug & 5 Lug 2nd gen hubs but if you use the 4 lug you still have to buy and redrilled the TT2 brake rotors now for the rear i imagine you have to redrilled the halfshafts to 5 lug bolt pattern or redrilled the TT2 rear rotors to 4 lug as well.it's all based on what choice of wheels you choose.

I haven't put too many miles on yet, but they DEFINATELY overpower the grip my front tires can put out. I haven't had a chance to really test for brake fade, but I would be fine in saying brake fade would be nearly non existant even with stock TII rotors and pads. The SS flex lines help with pedal feel quite a bit.

but would the GSL-SE hub work with a drilled T2 rotor drilled to 4 lug or do you need the T2 hubs (4 or lug) to do the conversion?

thanks

The kit is used to mount the FC hub on the FB spindle housing. If 4 lug is desired then you take the 5 lug rotor and add 3 holes, then use the 4 lug FC hubs. Rear can be done with SE axles and re-drilling the 5 lug rear rotors.
