Re-Speed brake kit

So just got a quick question about the big brake kit for my SA/FB.

The caliper brackets or plates that hold the calipers on have a welded on insert. one side is smooth and the other side is welded and raised.

my question is, does the raised side go towards the caliper or away from it.

the directions say to install a gold spacer between the bracket and caliper (which i have) but doesnt clarify which way the actual bracket goes.

thanks

The raised welded pieces will go on the outside of the car, towards the rotor. The gold spacer and caliper ears will go on the inside of the bracket.

<technical stuff>

The raised portion is a "top hat bushing" that is tapped and then tack welded into the laser cut brackets.

This allows for replacement of the bushing rather than the entire bracket in case of stripped threads.

If installed correctly, the bolt will be pulling the top of the top hat into the bracket material rather than trying to pull the top hat out of the bracket.

</technical stuff>

Thanks,
-billy

Mr bwaits -

If my memory is correct, you or someone at Respeed once were quoted as saying the 84-85 rear axles could be redrilled for the 5x4 1/2, but the early axles could not. Did I misunderstand that??? We have a rear axle assembly from a 1983 GSL, and the axle flange is the same diameter as the 84-85, according to my measurements. It looks like the edge margin is pretty small in either case. I redrilled some SE axles for mine, and they had plenty of edge margin. What is you understanding of this issue????

I am wanting to help out 90turbo here, but I need to know if this small axle setup will work. Is there some other issue besides edge margin on the axle flange???

The wheel flange diameter is exactly what hinders this. The 84-85 stuff has a ~6" diameter wheel flange. Plenty for adding the 4.5" bolt circle. Others with smaller diameter wheel mounting surface should only be done with care. If the wheels are still going to be hub centric and not lug centric, I believe you have a better chance with the smaller axle wheel mounting flanges.

Let me know if I can help.
