RB short primary....first impressions

Well after waiting a few days to replace the failed pre-silencer, I finally got the Mound back today with it's shiny new RB short primary setup. I'm pretty happy with the power increase, definitely feels a lot more liberated now about 4k RPM. Sounds good too....except...

...do your RB systems make a lot of noise from underneath the car? Mine sounds like my old system that I removed, which had a bunch of leaks and sounded like crap. It sounds a bit quieter now but still sounds like it's leaking somewhere. I'll get up under and make sure the bolts are all tight this weekend, just wanted to get the feedback from other RB users to see what their setups sound like, as I am a little dissapointed with it (at idle, the leaking sound).

Right on.

So it sounds real quiet underneath then, like a purring lion? That's what I was expecting, but not what I got.

And I am ready to duel the Mounds....you want to watch some SCCA racing next weekend in College Station? There is a six hour race.

Right on.

Mine is the exact same way and why I hate it so much. I thought it was leaking but soon figured out what it was. It is that damn pressure sensing tube for the GSL-SE actuation system. If you look into the pipe you can see how really big and restrictive it is. The air rushing past this is what makes it sound like a leak.

You're going to be in College Station next week? I'm in Houston. Not very far for me to trek for some good racing.

Well we might be in CS if I can get some interest in people to go watch a race....I've never watched a six hour SCCA race before but I know a guy driving a first gen so I want to see what he can do...

...sucks dick about the sensing tube if that is really what it is...I was hoping maybe my mechanic forgot to hit a bolt tight enough or something. I guess I'll just get used to it. Gamble are you using the SP system on a an SE? If not that's two different variables, so we can't really compare.....Mantis???

Right on.

Second impression

Dang old backfires man...it is ******* loud! Does it a few seconds after I get off it, but not every time. Sounds like a damn cannon going off...probably shootin flames but I'll check it out. I guess I'll check my TPS, could that be it? Not sure what else to check to prevent it. It's freakin' scary loud.

Right on.

Check your timing, I used to get a few sonic booms like that when my timing slipped into dangerous retard. And it might have a lot to do with your exhaust leak - they say if it's in the right spot it can introduce oxygen into the mix making for a more flammable situation in the pipes. Maybe your guy forgot a gasket or something.

That race sounds like a good idea, I might be up for a few hours of racing action. Give us a time and day.
