RB exhaust
Hey, I have a 1980, that is basically stock and am looking into the Racing beat exhaust. Does anyone know whether or not the $570 one will allow me to pass emissions. I don't know the specific rules of Utah, but in general, is there any way? What about the streetport exhaust? Thanks in advance.

Doubtfull. If you dont have a cat and ACV pumping to it, it wont pass. Utah is pretty tight (all that smog hovering over SLC), Im sure a there is a website that tells the basics. They have a visual too dont they?

Yeah, shutup kid.
With the single system you might pass emissions if you keep a cat on there instead of the presilencer. No chance at all of passing emissions with the streetport syetem.

It's a 1980, it does not have a cat, but instead a thermal reactor. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I will never be smog exempt since it is required for 1967 and newer vehicles(I just looked it up). I am probably going to need a new system soon. Any suggestions for a new system that doesn't require me to swap it for testing every year?

The answer is simple. With the single pipe RB exhaust system, you can buy it with a high flow cat in place of the presilencer from mazdatrix. It'll flow allmost as well as the presilencer. The main difference is cost.
The presilencer is like 150 and the high flow cat is 450. Keep in min this cat is specially made so it will fit directly in place of the presilencer. A stock cat is not long enough.

It will pass the smog sniffer test, as for a visual I couldn't say. I have the RB exhaust, but with the miller performance cat (the gray market one sold by mazdatrix) the emissions were amazingly low and since I had it done at a gas station thats all that mattered. Knowing the bone heads that work at the state facilities I bet it would have passed there too. Better check your laws first though.

No dude you cant listen to those ppl because it acutally the high flow cats are for 81-85. Now beeing as strict as alot of places, PA now requires everything to be original ! I'm still trying to figure a way to replace the thermal reactor, I might call a mazda dealer. When you put on a header, there goes your inspection deal right there because you need to have block offs and such, and the air pump connects to it. ... well doesnt hook to the header . I'll post back if a I find a good solution, later

Thanks, mine only has a sniffer test so the visual doesn't matter. If you do find a solution make sure to post it. Thanks for your help so far. If anyone else has any ideas, be sure to post.

Hi-
Also have an 80, currently with stock reactor system. We have seasonal exemptions here in Alaska (summer Apr-Oct = no test required), so I have bought a RB system (not the street port version, the regular one) to install. My plan is to install the header, but -hopefully- replace the reactor shielding back over it. As far as a visual goes for your State, I wonder, as others have here, if they would even know what was missing?? For your all-around use, the in-line cat (right behind the header in place of the RB kit's Presilencer) sounds like the "sniffer" solution.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. Congrats, by the way, on being an original owner! Wow! very impressive....

Unless your in California I wouldn't worry about visual, most people that work at inspection stations are mindless drones that just look for something that appears to be a cat and off you go. California seems to be much more involved and they actually test stuff properly. I know NJ doesn't, hell they passed my TA on visual with the cats air pipe bent off to the side and plugged, no air pumps, egr, any of that ****. Didn't pass the sniffer, but visual was fine, as was noise for that matter, what a joke.

Yeah, as long as you dont have a visual inspection the RB/high flow cat combo will pass with flying colors.
Most of the state guys would be looking for the 1st cylinder during a visual anyway lol...
