Rats nest wierd after removal

Well I went ahead and removed the rats neat from my 83' and now I have a few problems.

1. The blue cover for the carb has 2 holes that were not supposed to be covered, but what goes in them??

2. the engine is misfiring and wont hold idle it sounds like a pig trying to stay affloat at 1,300RPM

3. Had to drive it home from where I was taking the nest out and it was fine for a bit and then it just felt like there was power on and off and the car was shaking and hessitating to move but when you give it more gas it would smooth out...

what should I do I was thinking of going over all the hoses that I plugged today and over the plate that I made for the intake manifold after taking out the ACV i think it was called, but there was also an elbow that I took out and under it there is a little hole does that get coverered too? also It might just be a very poorly set carb and maybe I have to advance my timing on the dizzy but thats all the ideas that I have of where I fucked upp if you have any suggestions please let me know, I used the Rats nest removal .PDF that is floating around here

thanks

Yhe I was thinking of doing that but taking off the end tube and just keeping the bracket that bolts on then wealding it shut just so it looks better. I found out what that sound was it was my fabricated plate not sealing the hole, now I have to put the elbow in and see my exhaust cause its farting infront of the cat, which im taking off as soon as I can save up for a pre silancer..
thanks for the feedback keep em coming I will post pics of my engine today

Wanted to chime in since this thread is open.... do you need the shutter valve? I capped the big hose and small hose after removing the nest.

also, where to hook up the vacuum.... If I remember correctly, the big tube connects to the air filter.

ahhh so the big one goes in there, the one going from under the car?
also I just plugged the hole where the elbow was and now my car is just not ideling it just starts up with my foot on the gas revvs upp to what ever and then goes down slowly and dies. Is that just the carb and timing issue or something more??? let me know thanks

the only one going under your car I can think of would be the air hose going to your cat. you just plug that one or weld it shut (on the cat). The big tube I was talking about is the one on the shutter valve.

it looks good to me. just start the car and spray carb cleaner around all the vacuum lines you capped and spray around your blockoff plates too. if your idle goes up that means whatever you just sprayed is sucking the fluid in.

If you just removed the rats nest, and is not idling now, but was before you removed it, you can bet is a VACUUM LEAK. Find it. Kill it. Your problem will vanish.

I had a cap big enough to fit over the end of the elbow.

one more thing the air box now has 2 openings one on the pasanger side and one right behind the opening of the air box are these supposed to stay open? or do i close them off?
