Rats nest removal - Rough idle

Does anyone have this problem? It idles very rough, but it does idle. Revs up fine and seems to have all it's go. I've double checked all my hosing and block off plates to make sure there's no vacuum leaks.

Is this normal or am I missing something in my checks?

You have a vacuum leak. Especially if it's date coincident with removing rat's nest.

Hmm, I've check and resealed everything already on the once over, I could probably pop the two block off plates and re-seal each one just to be sure. Can't hurt at least.

Check your spacer between manifold and carb, check around intake manifold especially smog pump and gas/emission tube. I believe you have to cap something off the factory carb (if you are using it assume) also.

If you removed your carb, check that it is sitting flush and sealed correctly with the spacer and manifold. After emissions removal you might need to adjust your carb also....

Hope this helps...

Yeah, I've capped everything that should be capper, I missed one things so it wouldn't idle at all for a while until I found the one I missed. It's possible it just needs some adjustment. I also switched aircleaners to a higher flowing one, Not sure if that would have an impact on idel though.

You need to take carb cleaner or brake cleaner and spray around everything. The most common thing that I have seen leak is the block off plate for the ACV.

Yeah, I'm going to reseal both block off plates while I'm pulling the exhaust and clutch tomorrow so We'll see if that's the spot.

Did you find any cracked or split hoses when you removed the rat's nest? Looking at things from the other perspective, maybe you had leaks and the car was tuned to compensate for some small leaks. Now maybe you've eliminated the leaks and need to re-set the idle or mixture.

I did not find a single cracked hose. Most of them still had a touch of flexibility to them and they flexed decently after pulling them. It wouldn't hurt to try to tune the carb again anyway just because.

Don't adjust anything on the carb until you have eliminated the possibility of a vacuum leak.
