rats nest help!
rats nest help!
hey, call me stupid , but just help. i wanted to get RID of the rats nest's wires. i marked the ones i needed, unhooked the harnes, followed the schematics( i thought). got rid of the ones not used. looks nice and clean. went to start it. by the way its an 80. turned the key and the charger thingy on the speedo didn't work? started it, started just fine. went to turn it off, well it didn't turn off? i disconected the wires to the alt and it turned off. been puzzled. i kept the alt wires, water temp switch ,water temp, oil level, sub zero sensor wires. i'm stuck. anyone run into this before?

OK. after a few long minutes of thinking( took more than i've done in quit awhile). i decided to try the easiest thing, so i loaded my 45 and..... no i disconected the water temp switch , on the schematic it looked like it might close somethin off. and walla , worked just fine. the connector kinda disentigrated a bit when i took it off, go figure. so thanks anyways.and i asked awhile ago if anyones cut the wires, had no reply. so SO FAR YOU CAN GET RID OF THE NEST WIRES, i'll see how well it stays working.

siggie, siggie, siggie... I like that word...
Suggestion- pull off the wires from the back of the alternator and clean them. Put them back on.
I also had a problem with my guages... I happened to have to pull off the guage cluster anyway, so I cleaned all the contacts on the back, and it worked perfectly. You never know. The problem could have just coincidentally happened at the same time you did the rats nest removal.

yeah, thats what happened alright. i took it for a test drive, plugged the waqter temp switch back in and it was good. so i played with the 2 on the alt. and there it was. the plastic piece broke off, i ended up pushing the top wire in too far wich did something to a relay. it was dark i think it said check valve relay, not sure though. but i fihured it out. thanks
