actually, the 81-85 models had about twice as much crap as the 79-80 models... more solenoids, hoses, etc.

ask me how I know (83 engine in a 79 car)

Just for the record, the first pic is not my car. It belongs to a friend, but mine looked exactly like it (minus that FRAM oil filter).

but don't those lines do things? It's unlike an automotive manifacturer to put switches and hoses on just for the fun of it.

Some of them are for emissions ... hence why my car hasn't got them ... but the rest of them must be there for a pretty good reason

is that sarcasm I smell mantis? j/k

all the rats nest can be removed just dont plug the oil filler neck, or the nub on the top of the engine next to it.

the engine nub needs to go to the canister, and the filler neck to a nub on the carb that constantly pulls vaccum. same principal as crankcase ventilation.

do not remove the vaccum lines that go from the carb to the carb (clear/yellow)

Is this thread just regarding carbureted engines, I just bought an 83 with an 87 13B in it. It appears to be kind of thrown in. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, and I am new to the rotory thing. I am looking to clean up the engine compartment and an wondering, along with various emisions stuff is it ok to remove stuff like the sub-zero fluid. It is going to be stored in the winter, so i figure it isn't needed, is that correct?

Yeah the sub zero fluid is worthless. Pull it off.

Is the car carbed or fuel injected now?

It is currently FI, I haven't really decided what to do with the car yet, I am doing a lot of reading right now. Still in the planing stages!
