racingbeat header

Anyone know the measurement of the collector on a 13b SE header. Need to know so I can order the right size y pipe off the header. Car is stored under a cover and passenger side against the house and it would be almost impossible to get under and measure until I pull the car out in the spring.

I'm not really following what you're looking for. Are you looking for the length of the actual stock exhaust manifold from the engine? What do you mean by collector, do you mean the mounting flange where the manifold bolts to the precats?

And, why do you need a Y pipe when the cars run a single exhaust pipe?

Race header runs dual pipe back to the muffler.

I need to know the "diameter" of the collector at the end of the header. I feel i am losing 20+ hp from my bridgeport due to the restrictions in my exhaust. i run a magnaflow and 2 presilencers so I don't go deaf driving the car. Was fine for my streetport, but I wanna free up some flow for race days. This is what I am installing http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/index.php

Its not called a "collector," I believe you mean a Presilencer. I have one on my FB and I believe the inside diameter is the same as the header- 1 7/8in.

You shouldn't need a y pipe b/c the headers run into one pipe already...
At least mine do

Good luck

I'll do pics, a video and real dyno testing as well to see the difference.

A GSL-SE collected header has an output of 2" OD. They all do, actually.

Yes, on Mazdatrix site, racing section, part # 16195 is 2.030' I.D. by my measurments, I have 2 of them.

I remember seeing a manual cast iron cut out in a catalog, can't think of the name of it right now (ADD), they have all kinds of crap for cars and trucks, ah,..
JC Whittney. It wasn't too pricey.

Edit; 2" ID for 2" OD pipe to fit inside I reckon.

I got a cut out, but I got the cable version since it was cheaper and faster to open/close. You have to tune your carb with it open, or else you run the chance of going lean IIRC if you tune it closed and open it.

I took quite a few measurements this past weekend with my digital caliper and got 1.76" average ID of the collector. The header I had measured from was a four port 13b 84-85 model. The SE presilencer had a bit bigger ID, but the gasket it came with was even smaller than the collector. ? I don't know why, but it sticks inside the flow path almost 1/16" all the way around. I also noticed that the collector end of the header could use a bit of work cleaning it up. The welds at the flange inside the primaries are smoothed out before being shipped from RB, but the collector isn't. You might be able to pick up a bit more flow by taking a die grinder to them...

I also measured the ID of an RB 13b flange and the OD of some 1.5" sch. 40 pipe and weld ells, and they're almost a perfect match. I can't wait to start building my turbo manifold...The 1.5" sch. 40 pipe is actually an average of 1.6" ID, so I think that'll work out good with my torque goals for this project...

If I were you, I'd probably use at least a 2" ID pipe leading to your cut-out. You might be able to find additional gains by using a mega-phone style pipe from the collector to expand the ID out to 2.25 or even 2.5" ID before the cut-out. Of course, then you'd want to match the rest of the exhaust system with it and would require all new components, but it may work out better for you with the additional flow of your bridge-ported engine...Just a thought...

That is the plan...

i am going to do the same, but have a turbo with a down pipe, cat, and stock exhaust. Then i will have the cut-off right before the cat.

Presilincer and collector are 2 completly different things, the presilincer is for the noise, the collector is to convert the 2 pipes header into 1 pipe to run back to the muffler.

depending on what track you take the car to you car will be way over there allowable db level, if you just dump the exaust after the header. something to think about before you chopup the exuast.
