I ordered the Powerpulse muffler and cat replacment pipe from racing beat for my rex and I was wondering about the install. There anything I have to do other than just removeing the old muffler and cats and bolting on the new parts or is there anything special I should know. (Sorry Im kinda new to working on cars, but atleast im learning, 3 weeks ago if you asked me what a carbartor was I would have said a machine that counts carbs lol)

 

Just straight forward, just remember to soak the bolts with a good penetrating oil. Since you are remving the cat, you will remove the air pipe that goes to it, you can remove your air pump and acv also. To remove air control valve, you need to order the block off plate from racing beat also. Remember your car is going to be alot louder too. rx7doctor

 

I disagree about the car being louder, its a different sound but with the Prima Flo its a better sound.

Soak the bolts the night before. I agree you need to remove air pump (belt) because if you don't you blow out the ACV. When you install the block off plate at the back of the intake manifold that had a tube going to the converter.

Hope you bought some new gaskets too, cause I bet your OEM are trashed by now.

I did buy all the gaskets Im gonna need, so I should be set in that department. The kit apparently comes with instuctions as well so I shouldn't get too lost, but if I do you'll soon be hearing from me

taking the cat off and putting the racing beat cat pipe on the instructions say to put plugs in and stuff i just dont know how to do it like the AC cover the guy at racing beat said i didnt need to do that unless i put headers on......so can anyone like word for wor dhelp me out on a instructions??

 

From my own experience, if you pull the cat. converter and put the block plate that is the outlet port for the air to the cat. converter and you keep the air pump belt on. You will damage the ACV, guaranteed. There is no place for the air pressure made by the air pump but blowing out the valve and sending it up to the air cleaner.

Strongly suggest removing the air pump belt , but if you are running a clutch fan, you could get belt slippage.

The Air Control Valve is very expensive to replace, and if the converter is removed from the car, there is no reason to have it installed. It comes off with 2 bolts and 1 nut, but will need a cover plate in its place.

The Catalytic Converter Replacement Pipes are not intended to be used on street cars.

Didn't you read the disclaimer on their website or in their book.

*Legal in California only for racing vehicles which may never be used upon a highway.


Doesn't make legal for the other 49 state, or that it will work without removing some related emission devices.

Its your car do what you want. I am just providing input base on my experiences.

If you wanna do it the simplest way, leave the ACV, block its port,block the air pipe port, leave the air pump but remove the belt, get a yohoo belt to avoid slippage, done.

 

Ok I have been reading up on this, if I remove the belt and get a dual belt alternator pulley, that would get rid of any chance of belt slippage, right? Then I can remove the ACV and the air pump(if I can figure out how thats all done) thank god my friends dad is a mechanic in case I really mess things up lol)

 

yes you can do dual alt pulley, or go with the yohoo belt.

 

whats a yohoo belt??????dosnt this mena i wont have a working ac???cuz i might just remove it and the compressor if so on a later day

 

where does that small plate go that comes with the cat pipe??i looked under the car and theres a few steel braided lines goin to my cat but this looks retarded....

 

do a search for yohoo belt.

 

If you follow the air tube that comes off the side of the converter, it attaches to the back of the intake manifold. Remove the 2 -12mm nuts and install the small block off plate. Make sure to use the old gasket, without destroying it.

Don't use the yoohoo belt. Go with this nappa belt. Just goto your local nappa auto part store and tell them you need this part number # 25-7215.

No need to buy a dual pulley that costs over $50 when you can get this for cheap.
