Racing Beat exhausts suck now.
U can check for exhaust leaks. Only use the metal Mazda gaskets.anyyhinh else to will burn up. Ever since RB went to the shinny ss mufflers they sound like that. Doesn't do a very good job of quieting down the exhaust either. RB said about a year ago that they redesign the muffler to sound like the older ones. But I have yet to hear of anyone get one. Maybe they need to sell off the old stock of the shitty ones first.
I have replaced the exhaust system on my 85 GSL-SE twice in the thirty-two years I've had her. Both times I went with the Bonez Street Performance exhaust system along with a Racing Beat muffler. The last time was in 2021 and it was a stainless steel muffler from Racing Beat. I have always like the "plug-and-play" feature of the Bonez system, and have always been happy with the the exhaust note.
I figured out the hard start issue guys, thank you all for the help and input to narrow it down. It turns out the intake manifold was leaking from the main block off plate. It has two long screws and one stud/nut washer for the stock air pump assembly. I had to swap out smaller screws as the stock ones were too long. I could not see the stud for the nut washer as it's right underneath the carb heat shield where it can't be seen. I had tightened it with a extension and ratchet until it was snug. It turns out the threads don't go all the way down so the nut washer was just free floating instead of being pressed against the block off play where it created a leak. My solution was simply adding a larger nut washer that slid in and then proceeding to add the original nut washer on top. After some tweaking with the air/fuel screw and rpm screw - car is running great and no longer has issues starting in the morning. Muffler still sounds tinny though -lol. I honestly think it's the piping hitting against the heat shielding underneath the car but I can live with it. I don't know if anyone had gone through the trouble of removing the heat shielding underneath the car or if it's even recommended since our exhaust runs so hot.
