I have sent one sound clip +one link. You will find also on instagramm #voegtchenrx7 some sound clip with the old muffler to compare.

The mazdatrix comment i asked about the noisy muffler i bought:
"I'm so sorry, this is the way Racing Beat is building the mufflers now. They think it's better because it's stainless. I agree they don't sound as good as the old one.
I'm very sorry about the muffler, I have forwarded your emails to Racing Beat."

This thread has me worried. I should be digging my old '83 out of my Dad's garage that hasn't been on the road since the early 90's. It was my very first car and I did put a full streetport exhaust on it. I plan on transferring that and my weber side draft on to my'85. I am just worried the RB exhaust will not be in good condition. I do have a backup plan but it will be expensive.

In 1998 my original 85 GSL-SE exhaust system was on it' last legs' (rotten egg smell was getting bad) and I replaced it with a Bonez Street Performance Exhaust System (from RX7.com) and never regretted it. The stock muffler was still in great shape at that time so there was no need to change it. Fast-forward twenty years to 2018 and my thirty-three year old stock muffler needed to be replaced and I decided to replace it, and the twenty year old Bonez system at the same time (and at my age it will be the last time too.) I did replace the stock muffler with the stainless steel RB Power Pulse muffler at that time and I didn't have any issues with the welds, or fit and finish. My car has a very "mellow" sound to it. I have a .MOV file of the car running with the new system and muffler installed but for some reason it won't upload to the RX7Club.com site. If anyone wants to hear it pm me with you email address and I would be happy to send the file to you.

RB exhaust is thick, a little rust won't do much to it.

Stainless steel wool... At least back in the 90s that's what it was.... The stuff looks just like the pot scrubbers you buy at the grocery store.

Mind sharing that back up plan? I may be in a similar boat soon, and I'd like to know what my options are for a good quality muffler with good tone.

If the exhaust is too far gone to where I cannot use it I would have Logan at Defined Autoworks build one. His father actually installed the Racing Beat system on the car now about 31 years ago. I would most likely see if he could tie it into a Mindtrain Big Throats muffler I bought used a few years back.

Sorry if this wasn't really helpful.

BTW, I always loved that video of you and your Dad. When I first saw it I was going to contact you to see what your last name was because he reminds me so much of my father.

Did you get the muffler more quiet then? I am in the same situation and didn't know, should i prepare the new one or restore the old one. Any informations would help a lot, getting my 12 BP back on the road again. Just more quiet.

The old style muffler vs the new stainless bigger outlet pipes differs a lot. Any expierience with db killer here like you will find on bikes?

I think about building two db killer insert

They have changed the muffler a few times, Here's mine before install maybe 5years ago. RB was having trouble with there muffler supplier and talked about bringing production back inhouse. This particular system sounds great! Not too loud, and the muffler is stainless...

Silent + Rotary don't go in the same sentence.....

Not even with the factory muffler are they totally quiet... Rotaries are meant to be loud...I'm on my 5th FB and they were all loud...and I love it...

I have to disagree. The factory exhausts are as quiet as any other car. I've had two '85's with the factory exhaust (when I bought them, anyway) and they were "little old lady" daily driver quiet.. Now put a RB single exhaust on em and its like being in a barrel with a nest of murder hornets rolling around. But stock, with the iron manifolds and CAT's,... no not at all.

In current news,.. I have an order in at Mazdatrix for a RB long primary street port exhaust system, and they tell me it's back-ordered indefinitely. Say RB hasn't been delivering any full exhausts to them for about a month and won't give them a straight answer when they'll be available again.

HOPEFULLY, they're making changes for the better and will have an improved setup on the market soon.

News Update - New RB mufflers will be out later this month. RB's site shows estimated availability on 3/30. It doesn't say anything about improvements, but all mufflers and full exhaust systems have been off the market for almost 2 months so..... Hopefully they found a new and better manufacturer. I ordered a dual streetport set on 3/1 and Mazdatrix told me they hadnt been able to get them for a while and RB wouldn't give them a straight answer to when or why. Hopefully they took all the negative feedback and made a change.

Curious whether you're just going off the website or have some 'inside' info?
I've had a 12A Street Port full exhaust package on pre-order since early November (2020). At that time the estimated availability was 11/15, that moved to 1/15 then 2/15 now it's 3/20 - I'm beginning the think they don't want my money...
At least it's generally been too cold to be working in the shop, but that should be changing here in the next few weeks...

EDIT - BTW they also raised the price since I pre-ordered. No idea whether they'll honor the original price, or whether that means they've changed something in the package or not...

No insider information - I called RB and they told me the complete exhaust was expected on 3/20. That's when I looked at their website and shared the info here.

I didn't know they had been stringing people along for,.. so long. I already paid Mazdatrix for the system. I thought about just buying the pieces but there's no street ported mufflers in stock (headers and center sections are available).

I'm beginning the think they don't want my money...
Judging by all the RX7 and rotary content on YouTube I feel like they're getting popular again. I know Mazdatrix is making a killing off me. As the only long-time supplier of decent headers/exhausts for our cars, Racing Beat better get it together.

Just talked to Racing Beat again. He said they got "all the parts" in for their dual mufflers, so mufflers and full systems should start shipping by next weekend.

Fingers crossed.

Unless they're collecting the primaries before the muffler as shown above, don't get your hopes too high up.
