racing beat exhaust help
hey someone is selling me the racing beat street-port center section and the power pulse main muffler, he sed it came off a 1984 GSL-SE.....i was wondering if i can use all this on a non-ported GSL-SE?....and would i require the racing beat headers to bolt this up?....can i still use it if i dont have the RB headers?
My gsl-se currently has an hks main muffler....with welded straight piping so it is INCREDIBLY loud and i hate it....would using this racing beat exhaust system reduce my noise? and if i use this RB exhaust system, would i still need to put on the cats or does this replace it?
another thing...im not 100% sure if this was made specifically for the GSL-SE, but all i know is that it CAME OFF of a gsl-se...so it should work fine right? The power-pulse main mufflers for 83-85 are all the same right?....will it work with my gsl-se just fine port or non-ported?

You will need the dual outlet RB header in order to bolt up.
The center section would be where the main cat would normally be, so there is no room for a cat with the full system in place.
It will fit any first gen...doesn't have to be for a GSL-SE. The only SE-only portion of the exhaust would be the header.
The RB system is very quiet. I have the full single outlet version and is almost as quiet as stock. It is actually a bit quieter than my old exhaust since my stock muffler had a small hole in the bottom.
It will work fine for a non-ported exhaust.

Pretty much. the stock system will not bolt up. About the best you could do is run the stock manifold, and add a custom piece that goes from the single opening at the manifold outlet and then splits to match up to the dual center section. The problem (unless you can do it yourself) is many exhaust shops will not touch your car if the cat is gone or if you want them to remove it.
Now the other option (assuming that your exhaust is stock minus the hks) would be to only use the RB muffler for now (use the rest of the stock system). However, you will need the stock connecting pipe (goes from main cat to muffler) from an 81-82 RX-7. These go from the cat, split into two pipes, and run to the muffler (the 81-82 muffler, and this RB muffler that you have both have a dual pipe inlet to the muffler).
To really get the perfromance gain, you need the header. You might spend more getting this to work with your stock manifold than what a used RB header might cost (typically around $125).

Keep in mind, though; the RB header/midpipe system is not CARB-accepted, and you will not pass smog vis with it.
Westminister is inside the SoCal smog dungeon. If you have a "plan" in place, never mind, but if you're looking to pass smog, the only RB piece you can use is the muffler.
