Racing Beat Exhaust Hanger

Failed state inspection due to among other things a missing hanger on the RB presilencer. I called racing beat and they were not at all helpful. They suggested i simply fabricate one. Anyone have a photo? The presilencer has a small bracket with a threaded nut, but i don't know what fits there. By the way, 85 GSL-SE with 13B 6 port motor.

That fitting is designed to bolt up to a rubber Figure-8 mount that hangs down from the inside of the transmission channel. Looks like this:

and found here: Exhaust Parts

These are used almost universally for hanging the various components under the car, along with 2 of the super-large rubber O-rings to hold the stock rear tailpipe in place. The provide sound isolation, but don't tend to last very long. That particular hanger has been removed on my car to no ill effect, but I'm surprised they'd fail you on emissions due to just that. Good luck,

That sucks!!

Andernamen, I take my cars to a mom and pop type place in the Churchland area of P-town and they're pretty awesome at being honest about what's required and what isn't. Not sure how far from there you live or travel, but it might be worth a trip! I'll PM you if you're interested.

I picked up a couple of those firgure 8 exhaust hangers for my DD at Autozone. They didn't have the metal bushings but they'll get you down the road until you find or order something better.

I knew about the rubber biscuits but i am missing the part from RB that attaches at the stock hanger location. Usually these guys are cool. He also said my front brake line is cracked (rubber part) and i have the wrong battery (too small). I wedged a piece of 2 by 4 to fill the gap. All minor stuff. I will have to fab something up. They won't pass it unless it looks sturdy and permanent.

I used the AdvancedZone ones and cut some steel tubing I have to size and fitted that in there
for the metal inserts. Works fine. Keeps the threads of the hangers from sawing the rubber in
two.

Probably NLA and you will have to fab it all up. Or you can use a bolt and one of the
mentioned hangars and slide it on where the old hanger still is attached. Have to
remove the old hanger first using a cutting wheel to get the metal liner off that
post.

you need a new rubber hanger, and put the bracket on the other way. you're also missing the 8mm bolt.

^^^ he covers it - your bracket is facing the wrong direction.

Also, answer me this - but you're running a header and the state vehicle inspection guy is giving you a hard time about a missing rubber bushing? Sounds like an ******* to me. Find another inspection location.

I removed that bracket from my car years ago and aside from emissions checks, there's no mechanical inspection required in AZ subject to ******* behavior - thank God. Besides, most of the cars here probably wouldn't pass a mechanical inspection in the first place! Good luck,

I agree it is kind of nit picking to worry about it. That hanger is stock and has never been changed. Wouldn't the RB presilencer bracket be made to bolt up to the stock hanger. Of course i will flip it if that works, but if i do, i think it will place the rubber piece too close to the presilencer. Maybe a longer bolt, angled accordingly will work.

What is the size and length of the bolt? Any photos of yours?

its a pretty long 8mm bolt, as it goes through the rubber hanger and threads into the presilencer.

i don't currently own a car with this setup on it, just imagine yours with the hanger bolted to the presilencer

One last thing, what are the threads on the presilencer? SAE (fine, course) or Metric? I've tried both and nothing seems to work. The 8mm comes closest and if i tighten with a wrench, it messes up the threads.

8mm. When they welded the nut, it might not have been perfectly centered in the hole. Do you have a 8mm x 1.25 tap? Or a dremel?

I'll run a 8 x 1.25 tap through it. Thanks Jeff!
