Racing beat.................

Just had a question for you guys, i have the racing beat SP exhaust system on my 84 GS, just wondering roughly how much HP do the presilencers rob from our engines if any. Im sure they hold back some, i am considering removing them, but then im sure my exhaust would attract the local police from miles away. P.S for anyone who hasnt seen me on here im kinda of a newbie, ive been a member for a awhile just never really posted before, i love rotaries and all rx-7's.

You wont accomplish anything by doing that, just attracting A LOT of unwanted attention. Tried it when we first fired up my engine...scared the **** out of everyone within a 1/4 mile, sounded like a ******* helicopter landing. might as well not have any exhaust at all.

actually the presilencers deepen the tone. u'll get a more "tinny" sound without them. as soon as my work cuts out sat production, i'm going to remove mine and replace with straight pipe from header to RB muffler. it's just alittle too quiet for me. loud exhaust isn't TOO much an issue around here considering all the loud *** Harley's running around.

Presilencers rob no power and you'll seriously regret removing them.

Take a 2.5" pipe. Drill a bunch of holes in it to perferate it really well. Wrap it with stainless steel wool. Encase that in a larger pipe and weld the ends closed. Congratulations, you have a do-it-yourself home presilencer.

From that description you can pretty much guess that the presilencers have a 2.5" bore through the middle like the rest of the pipes in your exhaust system.

If you remove it/them, you will get an obscenely tinny loud sound. If you're trying to sound like a ricer, do that and then replace your RB muffler with a fartpipe, because it's basically going to sound the same.

Care to ask me how I know? Headers-to-straightpipes-to-muffler sounds like ****, which is why I bought the RB SP exhaust system to replace it.

I am running the RB road/race headers to straight pipes to a random stock looking muffler. It is a horrible sound. I just don't have any real reason to replace it as of yet (more important things first). I suggest you keep your exhaust setup the way it is.

It sounds like a man's car. There's something VERY comforting about an RX-7 with a straightpipe and a glasspack that's mostly burnt out at the end.

It just feels.... right.

Thanks for the quick responses, seems to be pretty much a split down the middle, but Im definatley going to keep my current setup, last thing i want is to sound like the typical ricey civic with a kragen exhaust.......

reguardless of the exhaust system on it, a rotary will NEVER sound like those ricey civics, or any 4banger with fart can muffler for that matter.

I was thinking of getting the pacesetter(i'm broke and in desperate need of an exhaust upgrade) muffler and running it with my stock exhaust manifold and cats. Is the sound from these mufflers really that bad? Am I better off getting a universal magnaflow stainless muffler?

I say just get a universal Borla muffler instead of Magniflow.

I would've if an Apexi World Sport didn't fall into my lap.

Anybody ever used one of these? I was leaning towards this instead of the pacesetter.

Magnaflow Stainless

Sorry brother but I like the sound of the strait pipe to the muffler! Although I had the prescilencer set up prior, I think that just muffles the beautiful sound only our cars can give!

Don't bother with pacesetter. Watch for a used RB system in the for sale section instead. Also, you won't see any performance improvement unless you lose those cats too.

I have to stay emissions legal so could I just replace my cats with some universal high flow cats?

you could go with a high flow cat, and racing beat sells a header which will bolt right up to the cat
