race spring rates (2200lb)

ive been looking through the racing, suspension, and first gen section, and i cant seem to find what a good all out race springrate would be,,

i know it should be around 300 for the front. and 150 for the back

i will post my setup for a better idea,,,

-se rearend with 3rd link, and panhard bar. (coilover style rear suspension)
i read with a 3rd link in the rear you can up the springrates

the lowest available springrate available for my coilovers (under warrenty with a custom revalving) is #279.5 or 5kg/mm i know that the springrate the wheel sees (wheel springrate) will be slightly higher, because it is mounted behind the axle... so i wonder if this is too high?

in the front i have fc subframe (reason i will also be running coilovers in rear) with fc sway bar,,

the lowest springrate i can run with warranty in front is #391 or 7kg/mm (i think this is moderatately stiff)

just for a reference; the k-sport coilovers i plan to get come with 9kg front, and 7 kg rear, or #500 and #391 . They only allow 2 kg off on each with a warranty. (i dont even know if i can get less without warranty) id rather not.

these coilovers ARE meant for an fc...

what the car will be used for

autox, drag, drift, and maybe some daily driving in the summer.

so i was wodering what a regular "high" springrate for race use would be,,
and if the rates i have available from k sport will be appropriot..??

thanks

Paul

I am using 400 lb fronts and 200 rear, its pretty stiff for DD but great for autocrossing and HPDE, not enough for door to door racing though.

whats door to door? do you think 279 is too high for the back,, ( i will do some driftin)

oh ya i forgot to add the car will wiegh 2200lbs or less when complete,, so its gonna be really stiff no matter what i do, but i just wanna see if i can get away with using the springrrates available to me, or if i have to get something different///

thanks

racing against other cars not the clock......279 may work for drift but sounds high for autocrossing.... As a guide the car weighs about 2x as much at the front than the rear, this is what I use as a starting point and then modify as I experiment.

Pro-7 racers tend to be around 350 front and 175 back.

I've heard of EP racers going all the way from there to 400-600 front, and 200-300 rear. A lot depends on what else you do to the car. After I put the third link on my EP car and dumped the upper links, I found I had way too much push with the big RB bar that I had in the front. Over 400/200 is going to make the car an uncomfortable bitch on the street, and it will eat shocks and struts that aren't specifically designed for that abuse. For street and occasional autocross, I would be reluctant to run more than 350/175 because they are so readily available, and use a smaller adjustable bar at the front like the speedway model that ISC sells.
