quick throttle question

Just a quick note before I start: I have yet to start the car (I bought it two weeks ago and I doubt it has been started in the past year). It goes up on a lift tomorrow to get a new starter, oil, plugs, wires, etc. but, two things felt kinda weird.

I was sitting in the car playing with various things (engine off, dead starter) and I noticed that my choke **** goes back in after I pull it out. After reading through the manual, I know that it's electric based (mounted by the driver's side front shock tower), but I'm still slightly worried. Should it stay out by its self?

Also, how far does your gas pedal travel? Mine has about 2-3" of motion at the most, which doesn’t seem like enough to me. I had a friend hit the pedal and I watched the primaries open most, if not all of the way, but the secondaries didn’t budge. I read through the nikki mods thread and found out that the secondaries are vacuum operated, but I'm still doubtful. Shouldn’t the secondaries open some with the pedal floored (if it is actually going down all the way)?

No, the choke should not stay open without the engine running. The vacuum from the engine holds it open or something like that. As for the secondaries, they are vacuum opperated. They have no connection to the throttle, except to keep them closed under light throttle. They will not open with the gas pedal, unless you convert to mechanical secondaries.

What are you talking about? The choke is held out by a electrical signal from the control box. There is a sensor on the back side of the water pump housing that is wired to the control unit. So when the engine coolant reaches normal operating temperature the control unit cuts power to the choke switch releasing the choke ****.
