Quick T/O bearing question

Today I was "testing" the throwout/release bearing. I have the tranny on blocks in my garage and I put on the T/O bearing and pushed it from where the rod pushes it on the slave cylinder. When I push it too far, it gets stuck when it comes back in on a small lip inside the bearing. It's a Koyo model, and I was wondering when you push the clutch in, how far does the throwout bearing go out, because it doesn't catch on the lip until it reaches the point where the lip is, which is about 1/2 inch or a little more. Thanks for the help guys.

Then the bearing would almost go off where it rides on, or it seems like. I will take pictures tomorrow of the section in the middle that has the lip and gets caught. I just don't want to put the tranny back in to find that the bearing gets stuck.

You'll be fine. I'm in the middle of a clutch job and am doing the exact same thing you are. In fact I'm waiting for a part so you might get done before me. What you've described is normal.

Okay, thanks for the reassurance. I just didn't want to have to take out the tranny again. You most likely will get done before me because I'm still waiting for my pilot bearing from Mazdatrix (takes them a long time to get it out to east coast), and I still haven't gotten the old one out. Haha.

thats not problem at all. the t/o bearing doe not move that far on the input shaft's collar when the trans is back in. just make sure you put a little grease on the input shaft's collar where the bearing rides and a little on the bearing's housing where it rides the collar.

Okay, sorry about the large pictures. I will change the setting. But thanks a lot for the info. I was getting a little scared it would be getting caught.
