Quick question

I found an '84 for sale. Owner said it ran fine. He parked it for a year or two and now it doesn't start. The brakes are also seized on one of the wheels. Anyone got any ideas on how to get this going? Thanks

So it doesn't start.... Any more details on what is going on? Otherwise you you may want to start by checking the FAQ page in the 1st gen section archive.

Could be nothing more than a flooded motor. This happens quite often when they have been stored for extended periods of time. Dump a couple of ounces of Seafoam down the carb, then try again. If the motor is useable, then anything else (other than rust) can be fixed...

Ok, so turns out the car hasn't been on the road since 97. The guy used to start it a couple times a year. I got it for only $300. I'm pretty sure I can get it running, but I just wanted to know what people thought would be a good thing to do to a car that has sat for that long. The L/S rear brake is siezed. Thinking maybe the wheel cylinder. I changed the oil and filter, drained the fuel tank, which just so happend to have a bolt in thebottom to do so. Changed the cap and rotor, and the spark plugs will be her on Wednesday. I'll probablly drain the coolant too. Also changed the starter. What would be good to do to the motor to make seal it's good to try and fire up before I try. Oh, and when I opened the hood after buying it, I noticed that the spark wires were hooked up with the #2 rotor as the front rotor, and the #1 rotor as the rear one. I'm possitive this is wrong.

Yes, the plug wires are wrong. Just remember 1 is front, "T" is top plug hole, "L" is lower plug hole.

I had the exact same brake problem on my 82 GSL when i got it. whatcha do is you have to rebuild the caliper. It might be a pain to get it out.. what i did "dont try this at home" is used my aircompressor and shot air into one of the brake line holes till caliper fired out of the housing like a gun Go to auto zone or something and order a rebuild kit for like $12 it comes with like rubber gaskets and O rings and stuff. You wil be suprised to find out of how much gunk has built up in there. so give it a little TLC and it should work fine. i recommend rebulding the corresponding brake while your at it -Good Luck!

I do believe that Frenchies car is either a GS or maybe even a pure base model..
It has factory steel, sort of + style wheels that I have never seen before.... Anyways... I think it has drums.

You can get an entire wheel cylinder, or just the rebuild kit, for very little money from Rockaut.com

Oh, it's the pure base model. No sun roof. And yeah, it's got drum brakes on the back. I just looked at my 79 rear brakes and they look different. Does anyone know if I can swap the parts over anyways?
