Question Quick Horn Testing Question

I did a search but didn't find anything ...

anyway trying to fix my horn issue I took one horn out. Connected to directly to battery then grounded with a test light. Test light lite up fine but no sound. I should here a sound right or does it need to be an exact voltage. Or have I found the fault and need new horns. Thanks.

Just take the horn, and lead two wires from it: one from positive, one from negative. Put the corresponding wires onto the battery leads. If the horn sounds off, it works. If it doesn't, you need a new horn.

Who uses horns these days? I just stick my head out the moon roof and start shouting. I love being too tall for these cars.

Locomotive air horns do wonders for getting attention. All the years I worked for the railroad and I never snagged one. Only problem is they take a good sized air compressor, 120 psi and storage tank. I've heard one installed on a car before in a busy parking lot. Everyone around stopped dead in thier tracks looking for the train. It's even funnier when there are no train tracks around.

I use to run the "electrical" air horns found at auto parts stores, and I gotta say it's nothing compared to big rigs and trains. A little bit more high pitched, and unique. I drive the rigs, and damn do I love that sound. And, the Jake Brake.

As per the train air horn set, I'm a minitrucker at heart, and came across a website that offered actual train air horn sets. These also work off a 12v source. Have fun.

Just look to the left for Audio Samples.

And, actually you can rig up an air horn set to your stock horn button. Inspection requires you to have a horn, it doesn't say whether it has to be stock or not.

As stupid as it is, I am getting ready to install one of my locomotive horns in my rx. The tank should fit just nice under my sub box. 140 PSI is a beautiful thing.

I didn't do this on my rx7 but on an old Ford Festiva. I replaced the stock horn which had pretty much worn out with a generic GM replacement horn meant for a large GM sedan or truck. It really sounded off and got that little car some respect because folks thought it was a bigger vehicle honking behind them. Only thing was it caused the whole car to buzz whenever it was used. You could feel it in the seat o your pants.

I may do this to the 7 now that I'm thinking about it.

New mod :-)
