It is gear oil that the transmission uses (for manual transmission cars). It is normal for oil to leak out like that when you pull the driveshaft. Many people will drain the oil before pulling. You may want to go ahead and change the transmission oil as it is often neglected. Any good 80/90 wt gear oil will do, but many people like to run Redline MT-90 (bit expensive, though). You will need a little over 2 quarts. The drain plug is on the bottom and the fill is on the drivers side of the transmission. You will need either a pump from a local automotive store to fill, or some like to use a hose and funnel and fill it from above.
