question for the pros?

today at the junkyard i found an 84 85 that had a 12a motor with awsome compression, on the rotor housings of my 84 is stamped mazda 12a in a very standard style stamp on this 12a at the j yard the mazda was different than mine i have never had my motor rebuilt and was wondering since the car had such awsome compression if the rotor housings from mazda are different from factory if mazda has rebuilt rotor housings. if anyone knows what i am talking about post a pic cuz i plan on buying this motor.

Its probably just older housings from another RX car, and if it had "excellent" compression, its probably rebuilt. I think I heard something about those older housings lasting a while in those other cars because of the oil system working well as opposed to the 12A oil system of the FB, which they later fixed in the 13B. Although, Its been a while since Ive been around here

Um, not really normal, no. There shouldnt be anything coming out except air unless someone put oil in the spark plug holes/down the carb. Although, Im not sure why someone would do that unless they were storing it. Then again, if they were just storing it knowing it had a good motor and decided to get rid of it for whatever reason, I could see it having oil in there. Although, that doesnt seem to likely to me. More than likely theres probably something wrong with it. The compression would be good considering the oil would help seal the chambers, and oil seals have nothing to do with compression. So, if one of those was shot, it would still have good compression, but it would burn oil pretty bad. But hey, for $150 you could buy it and try it. If its got a bad oil seal, tear it down and see if all the other seals are good. If so, make sure you keep em where they came from, get yourself a gasket kit and some oil seals port it and throw it back together.

PS - Which junk yard is this?

Are you saying you got "awesome" compression with a turning it by hand and buddy tells you how much air puffs out ? Can hetell the difference between 65 and 95 FOR SURE ?

Is your buddy calibrated ? Traceable to a known standard buddy ?
