The wheels are 14 inch, the brakes are larger and the suspension is better. Also the Se came with P/s.

and how is the susp. better?

higher 5th gear.
only s3 with the fmoc.
4.08 rear gears instead of 3.90 in lsd.

along with already said:
efi, 4x114.3 bolt pattern, and larger brakes.

I guess you are right on the 84-85 models.

The only difference on the 84-85 non-se versus the Se is the front springs and stuts and that is for the extra weight of the motor. And the rear bar on the Se is a
17mm versus the others 15mm.

The 84-85 rear coil springs are taller and stiffer than the 81-83 models.
Also they changed the design of the 84-85 front control arms.

i have 3 se rear bars laying around and they are all 15mm.
the bigger rear bar is a rumor.

as for the stiffer springs i have not noticed a difference in those either, they look just like regular fb springs. same height, shape, and size.
plus the se sits almost 1/2in lower than the fb, i thinks thats probably because there is more weight on the springs.
