Question Question on Altitude Switch

I am trying to understand the function of the Altitude Switch as it relates to the igniter. The wiring diagram show this connection but I do not have information on the function as it relates to the igniter.

So when the car is in 4th (top gear) or 5th (overdrive) that circuit is open so I assume the alt switch does the same. What that does to the ignitor I don't know off the top o my head. Have to research it a bit.
