You can either take it to a muffler shop and have them do a back pressure test to confirm it or remove the damn thing and check it and put on a replacement pipe or rb header system and make some real hp. Also may be that you ar elosing fuel pressure or fuel level in your carb, need to do a fuel volume test if cat is not problem. rx7doctor

whens the last time you changed your plugs/dist. cap/etc.? Fuel Filter? Air filter?these are easy things to try and see if it helps any. Check all your spark, and your fuel. I always start at the most elementary and work my way up if there is a problem.

Not likely, but possible. Check the things i posted for you and also check the secondary spring on the carb to make sure it didnt flop over, do this only if you have lost power out of the hole when accelerating. remember to only perform your tests onlyonthur, lol. Ya, i know im losing it, what can i say, doc's out to lunch right now. rx7doctor

oh **** my 7 finally died on me while i was driving it going about 35ish (not even pushing it hard)...it started sputtering then it seemed like it ran out of gas (which i had plenty of)...then i coasted it into the next street...then i tried turing her on but i just wouldnt turn over...i tried not to do it too much because i didnt want to flood her...then i let it sat for a little bit then it start up but it was reving at 3K ....it was like that for a while then it died.....then (man it seems like it gets worse)...the choke just seemed like it didint work..man it didnt even move....anywyas long story short a little bit later it started up then i was on it (not to hard though)...i got it to may house finally then it started to run fine again....i took off the air filter housing then it seemed like the chock mechanism was bone dry....i sprayed a bunch of WD-40 in that area then after that the choke felt brand new again..now my car is running fine like nothing happend to it....man do you guys have any idea what it was...it seemed like she had a small hiccup or somehting...what the hell just went on there...i think i gotta rebulid the carb but i am not sure....

Did you remove the cold start assist? My friend had a problem with the linkage that the cable conncted to. It got stuck under there somewhere and caused his secondaries I belive to be stuck open.

rebuilding the carb will help. i plan on doing that to mine as well, BUT its my daily driver so i gotta either 1) have simultaneous days off of work (yeah right!) or 2) work quickly. i wish to get bigger jets for my primaries and secondaries, and im kinda sorta in the middle of doing the AP mod. yeah i figure i'll keep the nikki, and modify it myself but if i want to upgrade, i'll go to sterling.

If you know you have a bad cat then I would start there first before doing anything else. There's really no point in doing anything if the cat is clogged or bad in general. I just had a new one put on my 83 GS, $165 bucks later, and what a huge difference it made. It fixed just about everything wrong with hesitation and acceleration. Get the exhaust fixed then do your other troubleshooting.
