Q: how to release hood from above?

Hi:

The cable went loose again. Do remember last time I did it envolved a big hard flat screw driver and losts of hard work under.

It is so cold and I am getting older. Only reached to find the cable was running loose, can't even felt where the hinge is.

Anybody, any tip, if I can do it from above?

Thanks much in advance.

That's a tough one. Find a similar car and examine it with the hood up. Fortunately I have 3 FBs (I'm down 1) so I can examine an extra while pondering things like this.

hood release

I had the same problem. Easy fix - get a yard stick or something like that and just pick up the corner of the passenger side hood just a bit. I did it w/o bending the hood, but i could see that you could bend it very easily.

The release is at the bottom of the latch system. Just slide the stick in from the passenger side corner and push towards the drivers side. It helps if you could see another one first (i didn't see it first and i still got it in 5 minutes)

Thank you, Julian:

That would work. You are right: the latch is to be pushed from the passenger side.

Well, I already paid someone to get it open ( and other problems )

But sure will remember this approach next time. Maybe, I should just add something to it so I can easily to it if the cable snaps again.

Maybe find out why the cable keeps snapping. It shouldnt, I'd wager your hood latch just needs a good greasing.

I'd take the hood latch out if it was this mutch trouble and slap on some hood pins. I'm a fan of them in this situation. It'd be a tad bit easier for someone like himself to use. (puts himself in flame suit and sits down quietly waiting)

IMHO hood pins are great if you're tinkering and/or racing a lot. On a nice clean car (which is what I'm seeing in the OPs sig) hood pins ruin the lines of the car and are a bright chome distraction.

Get some hood pins and paint them the same colour as the car.
