Ditto on the "clean" sound. I've never heard another engine that sounded so well tuned as the rotary. I mean, tap the throttle and it's just quick and clean....love it!

The Honda guys have no room to talk about the sound. They all sound like crap. Hate to break it to them but ANYONE driving a V8 is gonna laugh at both the rotary AND the 4cyl.

I installed headers and monza exhaust on mine. Asked my Dad the other day what he thinks it sounded like and he said, "It doesn't really sound like ANYTHING else out there." I said, "Perfect! That's exactly what I wanted!!!!"

Those ricers sound like bad kazoos to me. My '82 GSL has the original exhaust system except for an aftermarket catalytic converter (rodded out). Its fairly free flowing. One of my coworkers commented that it sounded like a bunch of angry bees.

I "cut my teeth" on V8's. I do miss the sound of a V8. But after 22 years with a rotary I don't want to go back.

Totally! That gurgling, worbling sound is embarassing, or at least I'd be embarassed to drive something that sounded like that. Piston engines also don't feel right. They have what feels like a lot fo low end torque, but then it all goes away as the revs climb. That feels alien to me. It doesn't sound right either.

As for my four port 13Bs, the sound is distinctive of a rotary with direct fire; the best sound there is.

I sat in my FB last night an listened to the whine...

Both my cars whine, but one is a Turbo whine...

I was appriciating the difference between the two...

you'll be fine at 4k as long as the car is moving. standing still, the cats will get pretty damn hot.

I love the sound of my car (except for the rough idle and exhaust leak). So deep sounding. Its very nice. Not too loud, and not too quiet.

I love the sound of my car. Its so deep sounding. I love it. And the whine, its nothing. Not loud enough to really notice it. I have an e-fan though, and I know that the clutch fan contributes to the whine in a rotary. But I love the sound of my car. I bet once I get rid of this rough idle I will like it even more.

The 20B has been known to emit an almost V12-like scream. I guess I'll know first-hand... eventually.

The "splatter your ear drums" rotary is ridiculous. Worse than rice Hondas. It smacks of tacky lack of taste as well as stupidly in performance.

The two best sounding engines in history are the Ferarri V12s and the Mazda rotaries. Hell of a combo.

Out on the highway, where I spend most of my time, my 85 GSL sounds like a rocket, like the space shuttle accelerating into space. I love the sound, it's one of the main reasons I'm addicted to rotaries.
