proof the stock jack sucks!

yeah yeah, i knew it was a bad idea. but somebody stole my jackstands, so what ya gonna do? well heres the story:

did a brake job today, first one on the 7. had some mixups with the new parts, its all good. we have 2 floor jacks that were holding up the driver's side. we did the disassembly yesterday (had to wait for parts so we could finish) so, of course, we forgot how to put it back together. figured, just take off the pass front wheel, get a visual, its all good. cant put the rear wheel back on becuase the axle itsnt reated properly (disc is rusted to it, removal tomorrow), so figured wed stick the scissor jackwhere the rear floor jack is to use the floor jack to get off the other wheel. lug got stuck, go buy electric impact wrench, FINALLY get the damn thing off, get an idea of what were doing, go to put the wheel back on, blam. car shifts when we butt the tire up to the axle, scissor jack gives way.

only parts earmarked for replacement were damaged. that pool of liquid is oil from the lsd because we had the thing seperated from the other thing (im not too technical at this stage, but im sure you guys know what im talking about)

Damn, never knew you were a member of the local low rider club?

But seriously, buy yourself a good jack and some quality jackstands, cars falling off jacks is scary stuff and could badily hurt someone. Quality, proper tools make jobs much easier and funner to do, and in the long run you get a collection of tools that can be used for other things!

questions like..... anybody got $20 so i can buy jackstands? or questions like, how do i reassemble the front brakes? but if i ask that question, then id have to wait for a response, then decipher the terms used (i tell ya im not too up-to-date on part names). no offence, but our way was easier, we just had an accident. it happens. jackstands are coming this payday.

The factory "Jack" is barely useable as an emergency means of changing a flat tire. They are very unstable, especially when used without the little wheel "Chocks" that are barely useable themselves.
Having more than one tire off the ground, while using the crappy stock jack, is asking for it to fall over. Having more than 2 tires off the ground while using it is BEGGING for it to fall.
While I applaud your thinking, using the still assembled side as a guide, your execution of the plan was flawed. Is all else fails, get a wood block, or the removed tire, to place under the car.

yeah, the second attempt was aided by a block of aluminum under the rear. just needed enough to keep it off the ground. why i have a 3x4x8in block of aluminum is beyond me.

i like having my jack in my car, cause one time i went over some railroad tracks at speed, then went around a turn. then had some weird rotational noise under load. pulled into my buddies place of employment...jacked the car up, to find out that the trans jumped out of its mount(its not bolted in the threads are stripped) so i just pushed it back. if i hadnt figured it out, i would had scared myself.

This guy is proof you can be new without being a noob. By that I mean, he risked himself and tried figuring it out himself instead of starting a possibly wasteful thread. Good luck with the car.

I wasn't pointing fingers or naming names, I was just saying that some people out there need to knock it off and use the search function.

+1 on the 13a and turbo 12a/carbed 13b threads.

If you ever do that, just throw the tire under the side of the car, just incase you pos factory one goes. May mess up the rim, but save the rotor and axle.

Well when Im in a bad situation like this, I usually use some junk laying around at my dads. For instance a big log, bricks, picknick table (that was funny) or whatever. Everyone usually uses common sense about getting UNDER the car like that, but sometimes you just have to get something done. I trust you didnt get under the car you change the brakes so you didnt have too much risked, besides messing up your car.
