Project polish begins (Pics)

This is my goal.

Before cleaning

Working hard

After cleaning

Monday I'll start wet sanding the housings to get that mirror look.

I also started polishing the elbow, but still have a long way to go. I'll update more pics soon.

Good stuff! How much elbow grease have you used so far? Hmmm...... wtf IS elbow grease anyway?

What has been your process and how do you intend to keep them nice once the car is on the road? Won't it just oxidize again?

Could you seal it with a high-temp tolerant clear coat? (if there is such a thing)

I used a wire brush with the air gun. As far as cleaning goes, I'll just have to keep on top of it as much as possible. The intake manifold, front cover, alternator will be dipped in chrome, so they'll be easier to clean.

I'll take pics of what I used tomorrow.

All i can say is wow. Both of those cars are amazing in the pictures. I also like the name of the turbo in the last photo.

luiml73, have you ever heard of a product called ZoopSeal? I've seen this advertised on Tv a while back and supposively this is just amazing stuff. You basically polish the **** out of whatever your polishing, apply this, and your mirror like shine should last 2-3 YEARS.

Taken from their site it can be used on " Aluminum, Raw Aluminum, Brass, Chromed Plating, Stainless Steel, Anodized Aluminum Parts, Stainless Steel in Restaurant Kitchens, Outside Furniture, Awnings, and Paint." So rims also. Now they don't recommend it for exhaust because it heats up too much, but heat does help cure it.

Check it out, and also anyone else. ZoopSeal

Right on gavin, I was just about to recommend Zoop Seal! that stuff is sweet, I know this old hot rodder who uses it it and gives it two thumbs up, he uses it on everything and his car is amazing looking at all times.
I plan zoop seal my rims before I put them on.

Thank's for the link. I'll do one housing with mothers and the other with this to see if there's a difference.

Luis, make sure you bolt on that intake on your engine 1st. I don't think it will bolt up to a TII block.

Looking good. Have you thought of having the housings glass bead blasted first? That leaves a pretty nice finish to start with. Might reduce your polish time.

And I'll have to see about getting one of those shirts...

Yea, glass beading will cut your time in half. And get a proper buffing wheel motor and wheels and polish. I use the gray compound after bead blasting (I only have one wheel) and It makes aluminum shine like a mirror.
