Project GSL-SE
Hey yall, I'm new to the forum so I thoutht I'd let you know what I'm up to and maybe get some recomendations. I've got an '84 GSL-SE that I found in a feild with a blown motor and a full racing beat header and exhaust for 500 bucks. I've sence removed the old motor and got a new street ported 13B from Atkins Rotary along with a racing beat steel flywheel and a center force clutch (all yet to be instaled) I'm at a bit of a finatial wall right now but the next step is to order a RB holley intake setup. my main question is why doesn't racing beat recomend that six port 13Bs be ported? and will their standard six port setup with a 600cfm holley work well for my aplication?
Also if there is anybody running a setup similar to what mine will be when completed could tell me how it performs, I would be most interested to know
thank much.

Speaking from some experience with working on Mazda's EFI system on the 13b's, I have read that RB chose not to try to port the '6'-port motor because the runners in the side housings for the '6'-ports are too thin to allow for much 'scalloping' of the intake ports.
Additionally, what they found was minimal power gain after porting appropiate to what is done on 4-port intake 13b's. With the hassle of having to be very careful with the porting template, and then the disappointment of not being able to squeeze as much performance out of them - I think they gave up. Too much trouble for too little gain.
On the idea of moving to carb - a lot of frustrated SE owners go to carbs after having irrepairable problems with their fuel injection systems. Many of these can be tuned out and work very well when in good mechanical order. The carb is not a very efficient system overall, and is demonstrated by the cars you see being sold today, brand-new, with EFI as standard equipment. There's a reason why nobody uses carbs anymore; has to do with fuel mileage, emissions, throttle response, and overall power output.
If you look at it this way, the EFI system must be pretty good that not even RB can port the motor and get much more out of it!
I, personally, would be elated if RB were able to continue to do a mild streetport on a 13b '6'-port motor - I would have one on order for replacement in my own SE, using the standard EFI system for minimal external changes. Good luck, and please reply back with your progress (and welcome to the forum),
