Been awhile since I posted here, no new pics at the moment, but I am almost done with the exhaust. I bought a bunch of mandrel bent pieces off ebay and welded up all the neccesary bends, it actually came out pretty clean, I'm quite happy with it. I need to finish up a few details and trim some of the heat shields, then I'll post some pics of the whole thing. Once the exhaust is on for good (very soon I hope) I'll tie up a few loose ends and try to start this thing.... Definatly gonna keep my fingers crossed for that one....

Damn it's sounding almost done. and here I am without evern starting my project. No motor, no money no time.

But I will say, you need to post some vids of that thing running. Sounds like it's gonna be one of those never ending projects.

Projects End? I would say never ... you always just run out of money and say you're done for a while, and then when you get some more extra cash you go out there and find some even more upgrades.

Agreed, I try to get as much done as I can while the car is down (did the same with my previous project too) but still you can't do it all at once. My plan is once I get the engine up and running I'll move onto body work, and finish the project off with FC brakes/wheels and coil overs, put the body back together and call it done for a while. But theres plenty in store for the future....

No pictures, but I finished up wiring the starter and battery today, figured I'd finally try to start this thing and no luck.. It turns over and has leading spark (gonna have to investigate the lack of trailing) and the fuel pump runs, but the fuel doesn't seem to be making its way to the combustion chamers, also there is no flow through the return line. Not sure what thats all about. It will run for a few seconds on starter fluid, so it seems to have compression, so at least thats good. I would ask for peoples help here, but I think I'd better start a new thread, rather than asking for it here on page 6

Ok, got it running! Granted I have to push the maf in to get it to start and it either idles rough or not at all, but at least it did something! All of the wiring I had to do seems to be working beatufully, and I don't see oil spraying out of my cusomized SE front cover (modded to accept the S5 omp) or any fluid leaking for that matter, and I've run the engine for probably 20 minutes total now, haha.
Having spent the last 5 months doing nothing but engine work, and wiring I'm tired of it for now, and will be moving on to body work for the next few weeks at least. I'll tackle the running problems once the car actually looks like a car again and I can do some test drives to troubleshoot better.
The car was in pretty good shape (visually, obviously not rust wise haha) to begin with so there isn't gonna be too much dent repair to be done, so I should have it primed pretty quickly. Still have to paint the floor pan and lots of other stuff too.. I'll post pics since I know at least a few of you are interested in the body work aspect of this thing
thats all for now....

Car isn't back on the road yet, I just got a new job which is keeping me pretty busy, and I've been doing things on my other cars. I'm still shooting for a few months for this car....
So you want a picture of the panhard bar from the side of the car?

Not many new pics to post right now, still doing body work, i'm taking my time to make sure it comes out good, and I only have a little bit of time each day to work on it, so its taking a while. Taking care of a lot of little details at this point so things should start going a little faster soon. Once I lay down some paint I'll start posting pictures again, nothing much to see right now

Finally have a few pics to show. Doesn't look like much at the moment, but it's finally getting somewhere. These pics show it just after I shot the black basecoat on it. I'll be taking off from work tomorrow to sand out a few little runs and shoot the clearcoat. I'll also be doing some work on the doors as well. Once the clear is on i'll post more pics. Hope you guys like it

As pormised here are some pics of the clear coat I put down a few hours ago. There area few decent sized runs that will need to be sanded down either re-shot or polished. Overall its coming out pretty good. Oh and if anyone is curious I painted it right where its sitting in these pics....
I'll be working on the doors and other random bits the rest of the day. Hope you guys like!

Thanks John! You can definatly take it for a spin when its back to being a car again. Still have to paint the fenders/hood etc so we'll see how long that takes but at least the shell it getting there. I have to sand out the runs and hit it with some rubbing compound and it's ready to get reassembled. Will be nice to get that pile of interior parts out of my shed and back in the car
I was trying to finish the doors tonight, but the passenger side isn't cooperating with me... Will try go get them done this weekend and mounted back on the car next week... Still so much to do but i'm definatly happy with how the finish is coming out!

Don't forget to put a wet sign on that paint ... they might try to lean on the car and slip off because of how slick it is .

So what will be your approach for sanding/buffing to make it as smooth as possible?

HA! I was waiting for someone to comment on the pizza box! Ghetto? Yes, but it does the job!

As for smoothing it out I'll be sanding off the few runs on the sides with a block and moderatly find sandpaper (probably 600 or 800) and as long as there is clear left I will work my way up to 2000 grit and then use some rubbing and poilishing compounds to really make it shine. Exactly which brand of compounds I will use is undecided at this point, but I won't be doing any of this for a week or so. For now I'm working on getting the doors cleared/painted.
Anyway thanks for the compliments guys, I'll be sure to get pics up once I have the doors hung and the spoiler etc on the car.
Sean

Sean, how are you keeping the stuff from your trees off the car? It was not good the last time I was there.

Looks great!
Does the black have any blue or yellow kickback when the sun hits it,or did you go with straight toner black?Toner is what I choose for my top,its the darkest black there is,BMW and Mercedes use it because there is no "bottom" to it when you look down into the paint.....you could call your car the "black hole".....everything gets sucked in,especially $$$,right! :-)

Haha yea its a money pit alright, but it'll be worth it in the end! As far as the color is just straight black. I'm using PPG two stage paint, and the can just says black basecoat on it. Nothing too fancy.
John, it seems the tree sap has subsided, hasn't been a problem for about a month now, but yea when you were down for rotorfest that **** was pouring out of the trees....
Like I said in my earlier post the sides of the car have a few runs that will take some time to sand out and polish, but I'm pretty sure I won't have to respray any of those spots. Once I do all of that I'll post pics of the car at more angles to show the sides etc.
twinkeltoes: this is only the second car I've painted fully, although I did help my dad a bit with his recent camaro project, and also did a little work on my Honda. This one came out pretty good, but I could do even better the next time
