when I try and start my car it will turn on when I crank it but as soon as I stop cranking it shuts off. If I hold it cranking I can actually rev it and it runs normal but again as soon as I stop cranking it shuts right off. Not sure whats wrong.

 

Anyone got advice?

 

So it will run, but will not idle?? Or when you take the key off "start" it shuts off??

How about a year, model, etc...

 

replace the ignition switch. the electrical part not the key part. the contacts are bad

I think I am having the same problem accept that it can get my car started but barely car starts and runs but very rough . only lights that work are the head lights , no dash blinker or brake lights . In the warning light cluster the door ajar light comes on when I either mess with the turn signal or switch on the dash light or mess with the map light on the ceiling or pressing the brake pedal . It does not happen when messing with windshieild wiper switch .

My car is an 86 GSL N/A

but im pretty sure that you have cold solder joints on the computer
idk which one though.

 

Check if your injector in the car is working right and its adjusted right because that happened to my 84 and it was the injector, which wasent adjusted right.
