Question Problems with new car

Hi,
I have just brought a 1978 series 1 RX7 with a 12a bridgeport. Motor seems to run well with power

Have discovered that the oil level is two and a half times what it should be, is there a reason for this as previous owner did not fix it?

There is large amount of feul vapour coming out of the exhaust at idle. What size carburator should be on the 12a bridgeport and what jetting arrangment?
Should i go to a weber or a dellorto, downdraft or sidedraft?

Would like to fit an oil pressure gauge where does this tap into the motor?

Would like to know weather lowering the car 30mm from standard is a good idea for improving handling?

ok well 1st off if you wanna meet some people in your hemisphere check out ausrotary.com , another good rotary enthusiast site

the oil level wha? explain what you mean. as in on the dipstick its too high or what

as far as jetting on carbs goes no ideaaaaa. your bridgeport wont ever idle like a nice car msot likely, theyre just evil little hosses :-P
weber ida's seem to be the carb of choice for bridgeports, but im no expert on that

oil pressure sender is right under the oil filter, you can get a T fitting to run both stock and aftermarket or get rid of the stock one

30 mm is about an inch and a quarter i think, and yeah thats fine
most springs out there drop you about that or maybe a little less.

The motor idles rough cool aye!! But i was more concerned about the raw fuel coming out the end of exhaust pipe?, is checking the plugs a good indicator of weather it is running rich?

Im thinking that a bridge port engine would run rich at idle just by nature. By the way, where does it idle at? What RPM?

As for the oil, I have NO IDEA why that would be the way it is. As far as I know, over filling it like that is not the best way to make friends with your engine...

You should do an oil change and return the oil to its proper level.

As far as the Feul in the exhaust gases, that is because the car probably has a free flowing exhaust, without any cats or other imissoins gear which reslults in very nasty exhaust gases, there is a reason an RX7 with a free flowing exhaust will shoot 1 meter flames out the tail pipe.

Good luck

i know by nature of the rotary engine its horrible on gas, letting unburned gas out the exhaust, due to the long combustion chamber, but after all these years, shouldnt mazda have figured something out - a better ignition system. we would get better emmisions and a power boost. anyone know how the ignition system is set up on the renesis? what about mazdas le mans 4 rotor, what kind of mpg does it get?

lol i sort of stole your thread, sorry bout dat
-about your oil problem, just change it that will fix it. the guy who had it before you overfilled it. and all rotary engines have problems with complete combustion - its "normal".
