previous owner screwed up interior

I have a 1981 GSL and behind the seats where the 2 storage compartments are supposed to be located someone cut the one on the right side of the car out and made a makeshift kids seat or something. Any way i'm looking to fix it expecially for when i sell my car once im finished. I think i'm going to need to reconstruct it with plywood but hey let me know what you think and i'll be replacing the carpet too in the back so any ideas or sites on that let me know also thanks.

Here it is...

Damn, that's scary. Can you imagine actually sitting in that thing?

I've ridden in the back of armored personnel carriers before and I don't think it would be that frightening.

It's a miracle he didn't kill his kid with that contraption.

Wow, that looks almost as safe as carrying nitro while drunk.
On a good note, the top panels are seperate units, so they likely did not cut the top panel. The top brace and all the trim is another matter. Time to go boneyard hunting. All of the needed peices should just be bolt-in items, so it's just a question of finding them.

that man should be put in jail...that is so insanely wrong and unsafe...he shouldnt be allowed near kids...

im being serious...thats just not right...

anyways...like they said...those top two panels seem to be seperate from the whole unit, so it shouldnt be very hard to put your bin back to the way it should be

My suggestion, if you want to keep it stock, go for it. Or you could do something different and begin a nice little fiberglass project.

I've got 2 kids, hook me up with that. The bungie cords don't hold them in place like that would!

hahaha umm what do you mean fiberglass project? I like all the custom speaker systems and stuff i've seen in the back of 1st generations though. But i would need room for **** it's just not gonna be a show car lol. Just for practical uses. When my camera charges up im starting a new thread called Air Filter Help about a probelm i'm having see you there.

rip out the old bins then just fiberglass where the bins would go, that way you can have whatever kinda storage you want, you could make one long storage bin, that would be cool.

I just shove their legs into the opening when I loosen the sunroof and crank that sucker back down. Sure their feet turn blue and hard accelerations causes a lot of thumping but there is plenty of room in the back for my golf clubs.

Another RX-7 that fell victim to a wife and new child. Here's how the scenario plays out:

Wife: We need to get a bigger car now that our family is growing...
MAN: What are you talking about? Our kid can ride in my car...
Wife: I was thinking of a nice Ford Escort Station Wagon...
Man, In effort to keep his car and not ride around in such a shitbox, redneck engineers a rear seat, and keeps his car.
