...presilencer Q...

im starting to piece together my exhaust system and i have a question.

im using an RB header, but im not sure what to use as a presilencer. i looked at the XR-1 mufflers, but theyre too pricey for my wallet. RB offers a few different presilencer. the mini presilencer to replace the stock heat exchanger and then 2 universal presilencers. has any1 here tried the universal, and if yes what size?also, i was wondering how they bolt up. would in connect straight to the header flange, or would i have to buy a flange, weld it to a pipe and have that go in between the header and presilencer?

I use this:

Part Number: 16401

http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=16401

I have the RB header, this presilencer, and then the rest of the RB exhaust. I'm thinking of replacing the presilencer with a straight through pipe since the car is mostly a track car with occasional around town driving.

the RB part posted above takes some of the sting out of the exhaust, but only limits the volume a bit. like every other RB part its built very sturdy.

it bolts perfectly between an RB header and the rest of your stock cat-back exhaust.

True but restricted. He should get the FC presilencers since the OD is much bigger than the FB ones.

I'm trying to interpet you statement about "But only limits the volume a bit".

Were you stating that the noise level is only alittle above the stock system?

If you are going to go straight pipe, i will take the pre-silencer off your hands.

I've got someone lined up already I believe. I'll keep you in mind though in case it falls through.

if you were to have a straight pipe in its place to compare exhausts, the actual decibal level will only go down a little, but the tone is changed quite a bit.

as far as being restrictive having inspected one first hand, i don't see how it would be anymore restrictive than some other straight through resonator.

The straight pipe used with a header system is very loud. With the pre-silencer the noise is barely above what stock would be.

will the fc presilencer bolt up to my 80' header? ( i think its an 80' atleast..) if not ill go with the rb one listed above.

and any suggestions for a muffler? ive looked at raving mufflers, but im aiming toward something a little quiter, but one that still has the high-flow qualities.. any suggestions??

Not sure where you're getting restricted from, my RB presilencer is the exact same width internally as the rest of my exhaust system. Straight line through it with a hole pattern cut in it's walls, basically like the old glass pack mufflers. It does help the tone a bit, still a bit loud on the highway at 90, but then, I probably shouldn't be doing 90 all the time.

have you driven a RX with 2" exhaust VS single 2.5 or dual 2.25. If you have then you would know this.
