Preping my backup 12a for my blowthrough
I just developed an oil leak from the upper rear plate between the rotor housing after about 1 year of boosting at about 12lbs of boost. I'm guessing the rear plate is cracked (for those who have experience this is it visible once the rear plate is off?) other than the oil leak the engine starts right up and runs well. I have a spare rear plate to put on if the old is indeed cracked.
At this point I have a backup fresh 12a that I'm doing the prep work for swapping this weekend. One lesson learned was the drain placement, I have drilled the front cover significantly lower at the base this time. Also I'm sticking to about 8lbs of boost.
My question is whether the ROPR mod and shiming the front really is beneficial (from experience both ways please)? I have the oil pan off so I can easily do it but I'm sceptical whether the higher pressures truley have a benefit.
Also does anyone think it helpful for me to snap shots of the swap and install of everything or would this blowthrough turbo 12a thing just be overdone at this point?
